My first "Contest".
Posted by Cdn Colin on Saturday, October 13, 2018 8:51 AM

A local Fall Fair had a category "Model Car, From a Kit".  I don't usually build cars, but I picked up a Revell Jeep CJ kit for cheap and built it between aircraft kits.

I decided to enter it, and came in second place!  Of course, there were only 2 entries!

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

Nothing wrong with that! I really like the canvas top, is that part of the kit?

That's a neat Jeep. I like the blue, and like vol, find the 'canvas' top eyecatching.

Hope you had fun with the contest. Sounds like a good first experience, even with limited participation. Who knows, maybe some youngster saw your kit and got inspired.

Nice Jeep.

Had a similar experience.  Entered the 'Collections' category at a Heritagecon in Hamilton a number of years ago.  Surprised to win first place in the category only to learn later I was the only entry.  Stick out tongue

A wins a win. I've won catagories where I was the only entry and I display the metal proudly.

Now if I was the only entry and came in second.....that would be another story LOL.

Looks like you added the tie down "string"? Nice detail touch.

I think they were going to give you the first place award but the second place ribbon matched the model's over all color so much better. Wink

I can't take credit for that, either; molded in.  I will take credit for painting it well, though!

It was a lot of fun, and I think I may pick up another car kit to enter next year; an armoured car would be more my style!

Have fun.

Good for you. There is an old saying (I believe it is from horse racing) that competition improves the breed.  I have been entering model contests for over seventy years, because I believe the saying is true for our hobby too.

i think Woody Allen said part of winning is showing up. a W is a W. i once swept the civilian vehicle category. there were 3 entries, all mine. what was interesting is their first would have been my third but i knew where the bodies were buried, so to speak.

in one local contest my friend built the Trumpeter M-1126 STRYKER and i built the AFV club one, both OD. he took a second, i took a third. In the next contest i took a second and he took a third. both of us thought the others was better.

congrats. enjoy the win and compete more
