Strange things happen around here during full moon etc. Next door is a chicken short, Townsfolk roam the country side with burning torches and pitchforks.....

Please forgive my-perhaps-terminal ignorance...

...but what is a 'chicken short?'

One of our chickens is missing!

There is usually lots of feathers scattered around and lots of mislaid eggs!

Sometimes ignorance is bliss..... occasionally brutally terminal! :)

That would be what the French call a 'chickenette'....

Of course...a 'chicken short' could also be what happens when the chicken pecks a live wire...followed, presumably, by a mini-barbecue....
