It's more of a test.  I expect to be waiting even longer.  I was curious about their Businees model.  It has changed drasticly in the last year and a half.  Several other online retailers, like Internet Hobbies, are doing a similar "Business model".

This Thread gives me a chance to alert prospective purchasers.  If I let this Thread go into obscurity there will not be any further notice of Squadrons Customer Service by prosprective buyers. Keeping this thread hot is my intent.

Giving Squadron some more rope has become entertaining.

So update, the model and glue I ordered shipped out first thing this morning. Checked the tracking number and it has already updated to being picked up with a delivery date of this Friday.

Remember, the model i ordered was showing in stock. So I am sure that is why. But the shipping time was quick, and as of now I am happy with my purchase. Assuming everything arrives properly.

Hello, I am new here and found this website and thread via a google search for Squadron reviews. I wish I would have found this first because these posts are rather disheartening. I recently got into building model warships after finding a random buy of a 1/400 HMS Hood by Lindberg at a local discount store. That was a few weeks ago and I am already itching to get another one to start. Well I have been looking for a quality and reliable retailer to buy to my new model from. Squadron seemed to fit the bill with a long history in the business and what appeared to me as a good selection. I can see where a lot of items were on backorder, or "available to order" like stated by several in this thread. I ordered on Monday a Trumpeter 1/350 HMS Queen Elizabeth 1943. On their website it says "in stock". So I pray that send my items to me, if no update or tracking number is supplied by Friday when I will start my chain of getting ahold of them. Lets hope they stick true to their word and deliver my items in a timely manor. Since it is listed as in stock, and I paid for expedited shipping....

I have no idea why you would be still expecting this to ever be fufilled. It makes zero sense that you would still wait. even if they were free waiting 11 months is unbelievable.

I got a reply back. That was quick.  (Wonder if they read our forums???)

Thank you so much Jim for your concern and we are all good here. We hope you are doing well as well.
Unfortunately, we are still waiting on receiving AFV Club, and because of all that is going on, we do not have an updated ETA. We apologize for this Jim and thank you for your patience.

It is another month, (The 11th Month), and I have requested another update from Squadron on my Special Order of AFV's Gato 1941 and  I-58  submarine model kits.
These were ordered on May 22nd 2019. Listed as special order/available to order.
Last month they finally placed the order with AFV!  I have no information why it took 10 months to place a Special Order.
Previously I had not thought to ask a date for when they actually placed a Purchase Order since it seemed impossible that they would have delayed all these months and after I had sent over 10 emails.

The most recent reply on March 24th:

"(we) "placed the order with AFV a few weeks ago and we are still waiting on receipt of the shipment".

I got a very good deal on these 2 kits so I won't cancel yet.
I have cc'd their CEO but I have had no response from her.  I will presume I must have the wrong email address. In my experience CEO's take Customer service seriously.

I do see their stock and selection shrinking and do hope they don't go under. I have been buying from them since the late 70s but nothing as of late.   I wanted to get some paints but they don't carry what I was looking for so Sprue Brothers got my order.

I remember them having EXCELLENT customer service when dealing with missing parts. About 5-6 years ago a friend game me an Eduard 1/48 Fokker VII kit that was missing 2 or 3 tiny parts. I called Squadron and happened to speak to one of the supervisors. I explained to him about the missing parts from my friend's kit, and that I had contacted Eduard but they were charging me for 3 tiny parts  more than the kit costs. He just happened to have the same kit with one small decal sheet missing and sent the entire kit to me free of charge! Wow! Now that is fantastic customer service.

Just had a look at lots of models because I'd never been there before.

In the first 5 categories I clicked on, every single item listed was "sold out".  At that point I was curious if they had anything at all, so I kept clicking around till I found a few things, but it took a while.

95%+ of the kits listed on their website are shown as "sold out".

If you have an eBay account their store page is a lot easier to navigate.
It only has listed what’s in stock and not thousands of out of stock kits like the website. I’ve ordered a few times from them on eBay and never had an issue.

Online sales from stock in the warehouse is last-century.

Yeah, but with distributors shut down as non essential, and overseas supply chains delayed, on hand stock is what it is for many of these shops...

Jim;

Being a Registered LEGO Fan, I broke the rules and bought a "Cobi"P-40 fighter. Hmmm: On this type of stuff they are legions ahead of LEGO I am afraid. I also have some Brik-Tech(Canadian) stuff including a Recognizable B.M.P.(Russian-Early Model).

LEGO -WILL NOT embrace anything from the wars. If you see a ship built with LEGO, it is from the Fan, not a company Kit!

Promise not to Laugh?

I wanted two specific aircraft in 1/72. So while I am cruising AUTO World's website I find them! Got both for seventeen bucks. That included shipping, Were on my doorstep three days later.

Really ! I was looking for a car too! got it as well a day later! I haven't ordered from Squadron since 1990. They seem to always be Out of Stock or Back-Ordered!

You still have to promise not to laugh. I got the Enterprise with "Beehive Island-1/350 scale and I got it on the "Bay" for $80.00 bucks less than at any hobby site. Got it in five days too!

No Tamiya. Airfix is gone. No Hasegawa. No Italeri. No Academy. Seems like a Company that isnt paying their bills and is getting cut off by manufacturers. Ive been getting stuff from them since the mid 1970s, also used to visit their shop on Long Island. Sad state of affairs, really.

I still get their monthly flyer and email notifications of sales. So many times, I don't see anything I would bother placing an order for, even if the price was right.

And I have noticed a conspicuous absence of Tamiya models in the last few catalogs.  What's up with that?

Cadet Chuck

They used to be as good as Sprue Bros awhile back.  I have not ordered from them recently, so have not experienced the problems being posted here.  Sounds like they have let a good company slip down the drain.  Too bad.

Oh, I know that a lot of old-timers love Squadron, for their selection and service back in the days of mail order.  I never ordered anything from them back then myself; I knew of Squadron, but I just looked for what I needed at the local hobby shop.  That was in the Seventies.

Fast-forward to the late 90s, when I got back into the hobby, and there was little need to go to Squadron, and the need has diminshed in the 20 years since.

I've bought a couple of things from Squadron, but only when the deal was something that I couldn't find anywhere else.  There are just too many other vendors with the same items, for a better deal and service, or with a broader selection, than Squadron has.

I get the catalog, skim it, and then toss it in the recycling.

With all of the complaints people post online-here, and elsewhere-it's a wonder anyone chooses to order anything from Squadron at all.

I promised a montly update on my 2 AFV 1/350 subs , ordered from Squadron on May 22nd, 2019.

Got a note from Tom at Squaron this month.  Sounds hopeful and depressing at the same time.

Hi Jim, thank you for checking in again. We are working on a purchase order at the moment for these items but don’t have an ETA right now. We should know something within the next week or so and thank you for your patience with us. Please check back again soon.

Well, the "next week" for an update sounds good but the Purchase order only being worked on, 8 months after I placed my order, not so good.

Finally got my plane last week from Squadron, very excited.

Placed an order with Sprue Brothers....the order SHIPPED the same day it was recieved...WOW!!

Glad to hear you finally got your merchandise. Used to use Squadron back in the late '80s and they were fantastic. Now days not so much. Huh?

I've been using Sprue Brothers and Hobby Link Japan for years and no issues are all. Super quick shipping and my orders are always right.

At 3:09 this past Sunday, I placed an order with Sprue Brothers. My order shipped on Monday. I received it yesterday.

That's how mailorder is supposed to work.
