Got in a fight with my internet provider.
Posted by littletimmy on Sunday, March 17, 2019 4:49 PM

As of march 6th my internet service ( herefore after referred to as "Huge Mess"), decided they wanted to be a pain in the backside !

My service is now cancelled untill further notice. I'm posting this from Walmart's parking lot. ( they have free Wi-Fi-)

I will be checking in occasionally, but as of this moment, I'm off-line.

( No.... I didn't get arrested by the Military Police.....)

As Arnold would say,     " I'll be back" !!!

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

Hi, best of luck.

A few years ago my fiance was a little short on cash, since a renter of hers moved out unexpectedly.  So I decided to cut some of my expenses so I could try and help her out.

Since I had a mini-wifi through my phone company, I decided to temporarily cancel my home phone, cable and internet.  What a pain.  The comp[any seemed to try and make it as difficult as possible, like continueing to bill me for the cable modem eventhough when I asked initially they said they didn't need it back.

Anyway, once I took it to their service center, they finally stopped charging me for it , but told me to just keep it since they didn't really want it back Angry

So, long story short, I ended up never going back to them, and have just been using my mini-wifi for the last several years.  Surpriingly I have found that I haven't really missed TV all that much Stick out tongue

Cancelled on what grounds? Curious on what would be the reason they’re cancelling your internet?

You have to realize that these companies are multi billion dollar public companies that don't care about any consumer.  I have Comcast, and they are the worst.  They will try to bundle everything and squeck every last penny out of ones billing, because frankly their business is plateauing and they need to do anything possible to boost revenue.

It's vile.   One has to read their monthly bill very carefully, and many times you will see dollars added here or there and to get that fixed is a nightmare.

This is all part of the technological world we are now in, where laws have not caught up to the technology or regulation of same.  Just look at how Youtube, Facebook and Twitter are now scrambling after the sickening event in New Zealand.  You can bet now that new laws will be passed to deal with this type of thing being caught before it can be uploaded to the internet.

All of this goes back to providers having carte blanche to screw consumers.

Hi,

I hear you there. You really do need to carefully check your bills regularly.

In addition to the other problems I had with my internet/cable provider I also found that they had "provided" me with a cable box for my TV even though I apparently didn't need one (since they never actually hooked it up).  But later when I cancelled my service t I found that they had been charging me "rent" for it all along, and I hadd to look all over my house to find it and return it to them.  I eventually found it undedr a stack of papers and magazines in the corner of my living room, untouched since the day they  had come by years earlier to hook everything up Angry

Ok .... here it is two month's later and I officially give up on ever getting internet back !

Our 5 year old modem went out. It took Hughsnet 11 days to ship us a new one. The second it was turned on, it ate 35 gig's of data and throttled us. We called and complained. They said it was OUR FAULT !!!

We suspended the account , untill they could resolve the issue..... that's when the fun REALLY began !

They charged us an early termination fee of $298.00 ( we were no longer bound by their 2 year contract so this was outright THEFT ! )

We called to set that right ..... then they charged us ANOTHER $298.00 cancellation fee ! we had them set up on automatic billing.... so the second fee sent our bank account into overdraft !

NOW I"M VERY VERY ANGRY !!!!!!

After 27 call's we finally got them to give our money back ( funny ..... they figured they were not responsable for the $39.00 overdraft fee ...)

I shipped them their modem, and the thing on the satalight dish and BENT THE DISH INTO A PIECE OF ABSTRACT ART !!!!!!!!

There's more to this story, but I will spare you the incredable stupidity I encountered from their their so called " Tek- support" team.

My wife and I are currently looking into using a cell phone as a Wi-Fi type thingee.   In the meantime, I'm posting this from Wal-mart's parking lot.......

ALL HAIL WAL-MART !

I will try to check in more frequently than every two month's .

Yeah they're scumbags. If you don't complain and threaten to leave every 2 years you get the sucker rate.  I can't wait until my wife has enough and cancels the satellite tv. Nothing but trash anyway- every other show is just a fight.  Nothing ever gets resolved, just a new fight.  I do enjoy Tracks Ahead and the Mecum Auto Auction though.  But really, I wish she would agree to get rid of the tv. Catch up on READING!

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Just don't take away my inter-netting. Big Smile

By the way, little timmy I'm glad you checked in.

Really, honestly sorry you are having all of this trouble. You seem to be a real good guy and I miss your banter around here.

Good luck.

I had a similar story with phone company.  When I ordered the DSL service, I said I wanted to buy, not rent the modem.  Then they started charging me rental.  When I complained, they said it was a rental modem, and I would have to return that one, and they'd ship me another one that I would buy.  Fortunately I kept the return receipt from UPS.  I saw the bill for the modem on the next phone bill.  Then, I got a rental charge on the next bill.  Complained, they said I had not returned the modem.  Gave them the tracking number, and they found the modem.  Then, in a few months, started seeing rental charge.  Called, went through the same argument.  I believe it was three times we went through this bit- I didn't return the modem- here is tracking number- oh! we found it.  When I threatened to cancel the service, they promised it would not happen again, and it hasn't.

I was a customer of a service provider for several years, I won't mention the name, but it sounded kinda like Comcast. So many disruptions of service, never resolved, but I didn't take the time to pursue it and change provider. Until !!!!!!!

I got a phone call from them, my auto pay account with them failed to go through VISA, so I would "have to go to the Comcast business office and pay there." I thought hmmm, that's less than convenient, but OK.

So, thinking maybe the problem was with VISA I called them. After checking she said "there was no attempt made by anyone for that amount." Well shuckey darn.

Called back to the provider I didn't name, relayed that info, sorry can't help, just go to the business office. And there will be a $7.50 charge for paying at the office, since it's an auto pay account and this will be a "special handling fee."

Called Dish, set up appointment for later that day, drove to the un-named business office with box full of their stuff, paid bill, MINUS the special handling charge. I wasn't asked the reason I was cancelling service, so I told them why. Pointless really, no reaction.

But evidently they miss me, I still get their flyers in the mail.
