TJ's display cabinet is done. Woohoo
Posted by tempestjohnny on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 5:38 AM

As many if you know I moved from Connecticut to Florida at the beginning of the year.  My stuff has been packed since the middle of last year.  I am sharing our spare bedroom with my mother in law for our hobby room. She is a scrapbooker.  So I am getting half the room. I don't have a bench yet but will shortly. Did start with a small project that will save some wall space. I built a paint rack that fits behind the door on the wall.

SSo far it seems to be ok.  If it gets much more filled I'm going to build another one behind the closet door.

Until the next update. Hopefully a bench

Wow! TJ, that turn out very well! I'm glad you are getting back up to speed. I'm looking forward to seeing what you have in the queue to build.

Looks great TJ! That looks perfect. I have my paints in small drawers near my bench but I like your setup better.

Speaking of  benches, do you have one? Mine is an architect desk from Ikea and it’s fantastic.

I need a bench top version of that.  I too have the drawers and open to see 40 black testors tops...

Thanks,

John

Yes! That would be neat.

Nice paint pantry. I'm sure you already know this but the problem with paint storage/racks/shelves is no matter how big you make them, you'll run out of room. Stick out tongue

It really helps when someone else at home has a hobby too! You can justify using the space. Good to see you’re getting up and running.

Wow!! That's a great idea! I've got almost 200 bottles of paint, all of them stored in a large desk drawer, and have been contemplating how to get them all on a wall rack so I don't have to pull each one out of the draweer to find the paint I need. Your's is the idea I've been looking for!! Hope the bench comes out ok, too.

My wife is a scrapbooker (and quilter, and greeting card maker), too, so I feel your appreciation for your mom-in-law's hobby.

Gary. She just bought herself the "Original Scrapbox Dreambox" storage unit. And it's still not big enough.

You are more then welcome to use my idea for the rack. Its just 1x3 pine. Most if the shelves are 4" tall to accommodate either one or two bottles.

Now we're getting somewhere. Built myself a bench from 2 old nightstands and a scrap piece of melamine. 5.5' by 2'

Shelf on wall was a cast off from my MIL

I will be building a small exhaust booth on the left hand side. Will exit out a window.

TJ, that is an awesome looking work area!  I like the way you have your paints organized!  Mine are all over the place.  LOL!

Be sure not to spill any on the rug!!  I have my small paint booth in the giant closet in my room (it has a window I exhaust from) and I put down our moving boxes on the rug....cause I know I'll drip paint at some point (and have! Whistling)

Great bench area, it's looking great!

Well I've started the new display cabinet. Ran a sheet short so I'm on hold until I get to Home Depot.  Its 8 feet long and 6 feet high.  The bottom 2 feet will be an enclosed cabinet. So the display will be 8 feet x 4 feet.

Well they are out of the moving boxes. Minor repairs needed on some. Nothing to serious for being in boxes for 10 months and moving 1500 miles
