Thought I would mention a new WWII documentary that is being released on May 23rd in theaters for "one day only".  Don't know why they're doing that.

The documentary consists of restored film footage of William Wyler's "The Memphis Belle".  It may contain new footage as they found the original film shot for TMB.  Here's the trailer.

And here's the article describing the film and release.

I will probably have to catch it later as I doubt it will be showing around here!

Not unusual since there was a limited showing of a WW1 film for one night only last year.

THEY SHALL NOT GROW OLD initially played twice a day for four days over two weeks. I tried to get into the last showing but it was sold old. There was at least one more day of two showings when I did get to see it.

Looks good. And May 23 is my day off... that would be nice to see it.

Side note, it’s amazing how well they can clean up old color footage digitally. It really puts all the colorized B&W footage and CGI stuff from Hollywood to shame. Just looking at those B-17s heading into the flack box in crystal clarity brings that act into frightening reality. I can only imagine the pucker factor of those crews at that moment. I have the original Wellman film Memphis Belle somewhere at home. Some of this footage was not in that.

Unfortunately, the closest theater showing is in Georgia on the other side of Atlanta.  A bit far to travel.  Hopefully it will be out on Blu-Ray soon.
