Very cool to see your pictures, PJ. These images move me because of their significance, and for me, it's personal too. Both of my parents and their siblings were caught up in that war when Poland fell to Germany, and very quickly they were assimilated into German work camps as slave labor. The stories I have heard...

It is important history that we should never forget.

That's fascinating. The U-3523 as you know was a type XXI. She was sunk with all hands.

I read somewhere that the amount of effort and materials wasted on the aircraft carriers project could have resulted in another 100 type VII/ type IX boats. I suppose it's good that didn't happen.

Now I’m getting light headed! Thats a very rare living piece of history right there.  I can almost smell the oil and diesel.  To see something in person that you’ve only seen in books and magazines must’ve been quite the thrill!

Well Chad, how about a U Boat?

Interior views showing some seldom seen details. The U Boat was cut in several sections and plexiglass seals each of the sections. I put my phone right up on the plexi and took the pictures which came out very clear. Amanzingly, all hands got out before going under so it wans't declared a military grave site.

So many cool things to see!  I would love to see those DKM uniforms in person.

Hi, Ernie - Thanks so much for the great photos, not overdone at all, I hope you'll post more.

I've never been to that place where the men scaled the cliff, but seeing your photo drew my attention to the beach area at the base. I couldn't help but to envision what that beach looked like on that day, the terrible loss of very young men, on both sides. I can imagine the air was filled with smoke, and I'm saddened to think of the suffering that so many experienced.

The bomb craters also left a clear image of what happened then. At this moment I am offering heartfelt and sincere appreciation, for what so many gave, on that terrible day and so many other days as well. Thank you to all veterans.

Oh you are welcome TB. Sorry to hear about what hapenned your dad. He sounds like he was a stand up guy who paid the price simply because of what he believed in. Lots of good men were lost on both sides. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Hey thanks all and glad you all like my pictures.  I didn’t want to over load the thread with pictures but I can add a few more. For those of you that follow Games of Thrones and Highlander, we went to the castle in Scotland where some scenes were filmed. Man it was cold, damp and even colder inside the castle. 

We also visited Liverpool and had to see the Beatles Museum and the German U534 display. Quite an experipence indeed.
