Don Stauffer

Any of  you old timers remember the Usenet newsgroup, rec.models.scale?  Spent a number of years there before it became junk and I found the finescale forums.

Yes, I just posted a link to it when the editor of FSM was communicating with us.

I was looking on the old USENET message board rec.scale.models and Fine Scale Modeler editor Terry Thompson was still communicating with us on 3/19/2001. That post was about magazines not being mailed in clear plastic covers.

February, 2003.  Still have my Scale Modeler magazines,  all Fine Scale and some IPMS magazines also.

I had all the FSM maybe missing a couple, had to dump them all when I moved, just too much, always used to leaf thru them while riding the stationary bike.

2003-think it may have been a bit earlier but given the 'restructuring' and my poor memory, I'll go with 2003..haven't done a good job of completing projects lately but I do have a nice stash for the Shelf of Doom GBs....a lot of good people and great modelers here-both past and present

Oh that’s interesting. Hadn’t thought about it, but I used to get Model Railroader magazine way back, like mid sixties.

Kalmbach is a great publisher, for sure.

There isn't anyone who's join date is before Dec 2002. There was a major upgrade and everyone had to re-register.

I think i first signed up in 2001.

I think you are right; they had a forum added to their original website for the magazine and then relaunched with the forum integrated into the website. FSM had been my main modeling magazine for about a decade prior to the website forum.

Same here. In about 89 a friend gave me an older copy and i subscribed soon after. It was one of the first sites i looked for when i first got a PC. I wasn't keen on the format, i found it confuseing. I was pleased when they re-did it.

To you fellows who have been around since the early 2000's, I seriously tip my hat to you.

Thank you for being here. You do make a difference. Having you here is good for the forum, and good for helping to get new folks in here too, IMO.

For an old fart, you surely do look young in your picture. Stick out tongue

Well, that was taken 8 years ago. Someone the other day did say he thought i was about 43. I'll take that.
