The Snow has returned (Oh, no!!!!!!)
Posted by JohnnyK on Thursday, October 31, 2019 2:35 PM

Today is still October, the leaves are still on the trees, the temperature is 20 degrees below normal, the wind is blowing hard and there is over six inches of snow on the ground in the Chicago area with more to fall. Huh? I doubt if there will be any Trick or Treaters today.

It's unseasonably cold in the North Texas area but nothing like that!

No snow yet in the N. Ga. mountains, but our first freeze is called for tonight. Supposed to get down to 27. It's that time.

I shudder when I see that, brings back memories of the shovel as a kid.  Got 5 feet in two days once (no drifting either).

Now I'm glad to live in the PNWet, at least I don't have to shovel rain.Big Smile

We had a blizzard here on Halloween in 1991, got 2 feet. Didn't stop the kids from going out.

That was 30 years ago. Kids today wouldn't go out in snow if you were giving away cash instead of candy.  I don't think the kids will be out in Chicago today.

Very rare for Chicago area to get snow before us lake effect snow victims on the east coast of Lake Michigan.

Thanks for the pics fellas. And I'm glad to have put the Weber away early last week. :)

In fire country here, it was in the low 40s at dawn and low 80s in the afternoon. Clear skies aside from smoke and the smell of wild fires...

Enjoy that snow.

Central Oregon got butt cold over the past couple of days, froze my outside faucets so watering the horses was a real pain. Got warmed up today throwing up a ton and a half of hay for winter stores. 125lb bales are getting a bit more than I like at my age.

"Why do I do this? Because the money's good, the scenery changes and they let me use explosives, okay?"

Exact opposite here in SW Florida. We set a record high 3 days in a row at the beginning of the week. Low 70's at night 90ish during the day

Here in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area the forecast was for a dusting at most, with very dry air.  Pavements were a little damp this morning but not a hint of snow left.  But I really long for an Indian Summer.  In spite of an okay summer, I have so far neglected to get out in the back yard to photograph the models I completed last winter!  I like shooting models in sunlight. I guess I spent most of my time mowing the yard from all the rainfall we got during the summer- sometimes had to cut it twice a week!

What was it that a buddy of mine used to say about Minnesota .  .  .   Oh yeah;

Nine months of winter and three months of bad sledding!

That sounded about right, hence I'm not residing there. But good luck to those of you who do; I hear it's a good place for snowmobiles, ice shanties, and apparently, model builders.

I say bring on the cold and snow. I'm ready to hide at my bench for few months and ignore the world. It got cold in Idaho too a few weeks back but its warmed back to normal now. It's supposed to be warmer and wetter than normal in the northwest this year. Time will tell. I just need a good excuse to not go outside and cold and snow works well for that.
