Shout out to all my fellow veterans!

I know this is a bit late, but i didn't think i had any pics of me. Just found a couple on a file i had forgotten about. These were at camp Bastion Afghanistan in the winter of 08/09.

Glad i found these, other than framed group photo's, i think they are the only ones i have.

This is me few eons ago in the Yugoslavian navy. On this photo I was doing communication work with local boy/girl scouts at one of their stations during their 20 km march where they had to find different stations. Once they find us, I would call the HQ and report that such and such team arived at this or that time in more or less good shape.

Yes sir, the birds are turning and kicking a rooster tail. I went on a Bush once in AK, the Plaintree (the planet ree, as she was affectionately called). That was a worker! My longest hotel stay was on the Storis (Queen of the Fleet) or "Stowy pig" as we called her, now a reef somewhere. Keel laid in 41 and her ashes were returned to the sea in 07. The only ship in her class. The shipyards needed to build bigger boats for some reason . She could break 11 feet of ice.

     I don't have any photos now. Too many moves over too much time. But I think between the Navy and the Corp I did what I liked best . Serving my Adopted Country! Which I didn't know till I applied for enlistment.

No pics of me in the USAF, just basic. Cameras were never allowed anywhere near the flight line, so ya. Started out in green fatigues and they phased in BDU"s shortly there after. Never worn the green again, just plane ugly. Heart felt thanks to all my fellow vets, only we understand.

Hey, Modelcrazy.

     Which do you think were the most Nautical Looking ? the Capes or the Points? My last conversion to a Live-Aboard was a Bush ( Bouy-Tender) Class. Never could find a Cape or Point that wasn't trashed by inactivity.

   You know, Armornut. You need not be ashamed for anything. I caught a lot of Flak for changing uniforms, But, That's how I got my time in . It was the Serving that made it for me . I am sure there were better Sailors and Marines than me . I just did my best no matter it was!

 You guys always had the prettiest ships back in the day. The Secretaries were Gorgeous!

I'm sure I have a picture around somewhere in uniform but mostly in civies.

14 years Coast Guard ET1, electronics tech first class. I got out in 97 because HP offered me a job for a much higher wage, four years later I was looking for another job. I often regret not completing my 20 but that's downrange and nothing can be done about it now.

I am extremely proud of my service and am as equally proud of everyone else who served.

Pretty sure y'all would cringe in fear at a photo of me lol.

    I served in the U.S. Navy from 1987 to 1994 as an Aviation Electricians Mate. Made it to E-4,( third class petty officer), I was stationed at NAS Whibey Is. in 2 EA-6B squadrons, one sea duty the other shore. Both assignments were line maintenance.

     Six months and 160lbs lighter I joined the Washinton state Army National Guard were I figured out I was a worse soldier than I was a sailor. Turned my uniforms, ID cards in and walked away from anything military for nearly 20yrs. I was ashamed, embarrassed, and afraid to say I served. Desert Storm was my action and I truly didn't feel like I did anything special.

      Today after all these years I have found myself, joined a club of vets who showed me that whether your peeling spuds or taking live fire EVERY job is important to the mission. I have ABSOLUTE respect for my brothers in arms and hope that I can make the next guy who may feel as I do (did) feel proud of his, or hers service.

    Sorry it is a long dialouge and in closing I want to thank those brave men and women from Viet Nam era who tolerated so much pain and swore that no veteren would ever be treated that way again. Thank you. It is an honor and a PRIVILEGE to call you all Brother.

If you have a newer phone camera, you can take a photo of the photo and then edit that to your liking. I’ve been doing that lately.

Hey Stik, Why does it look like everyone else is going the other way .  .  . Just curious.

 

I gave my camera to the guy behind me in the road march, then turned around to walk backwards for the photo so he wasn't shooting my backside as we walked. 

Sorry but not any photos available perhaps from basic training (?). I started in the Nuclear Release Authentication System (NRAS) calculating the firing data and building tactical nukes and finished as a Counter Intelligence Agent (both of these fields had zero tolerance for photos).... sorry. Heck, I could not even have a tatoo or distinguishing scar and still qualify as C.I. 

During my time in the military (Army) I remember starting service wearing the solid green "pickle suit" and left with BDU's; Riding in a Jeep but later riding in a HUMV; Qualifying with a 1911 (45) but later the Beretta (9mm); wearing a Steel Pot but later wearing Kevlar Helmets; eating C-rations early on (P38) which later became Meals Ready to Eat (MREs); etc., etc.

I know many of you have similar stories, please share some of yours. 

Most important; For all of you who stood up and are currently standing to answer the call, thank you (veterans) for your service and sacrifice!

Once upon a time...

Well, it's an older one but .  .  .

Four years active duty in the USAF and the only picture I have of myself is on my military I.D. I know I still have my I.D., somewhere in the house.

Looks like the Arabian desert back during Desert Storm.
