Why does Maverick, a Navy man, own a P-51 instead of an F4U?

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

How does Maverick afford a million dollar plus vintage fighter that costs in excess of $1000/hour to operate on Navy pay?

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

The last Navy guy who did something like that was selling our secrets to the Russians.  Maverick has made some REALLY GOOD investments...

Tom Cruise owns a Mustang and not an F4UBig Smile

Its a movie about Tom Cruise LOL.

So far, I am liking what it said about the movie and the previews I've seen, according to Jerry Bruckheimer and Cruise, the movie is made with real flying and minimal CG.  They want the viewer to be in the cockpit of a real fighter.  The movie is to be for airplane fanatics.

O-6 pay, single, no dependants, lives on base housing BOQ when not at sea... Wink

But yeah, the latest preview looks gorgeous for the aerial shots. I’ll definitey see it in the movie theater.

Prolly can't find a good radial mech in so cal. RR or Allison are just bigger Vs. Cal waterpumps for aquaduct used to be driven by Allisons back in the day. Wink

Forget Navy pay, how about just about any pay short of top earning Doctors and Lawyers! That is a really expensive toy and (it seems right now) some silly writing from the studios

Looking forward to this movie, but I hope the Mustang has an important role, and not just Tom Cruise showing off his airplane by putting it in the movie.

I still think it should be a Corsair or Hellcat, though!

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.
