Amen to that. We were at Omaha Beach last year on June 5th and it was trully a moving experience walking around the US Cemetery were all those young men are resting. May them all RIP.

Had to be a great experience. I can't imagine the flow of emotion it instills in a person to be there.

Absolutely. We also went to Pointe du Hoc where so many Rangers wee killed trying to scale the cliffs. Click on the pictures for close ups.

D-day is one of four specific moments I remember from the war.  They are Pearl Harbor- I was only three and a half then, but I DO remember it.  Then D-Day, VE day and VJ day.  I had an uncle that landed in Normandy D+4.

I had an Uncle there as well.

Should be some ceremonies to watch.

That quote has stuck with me, for it reflects a truth that stretches over time.  Therefore, let's pause for a moment and give thought to our past and our future.

I filled a life square last year as my fiancée and I took a day trip to Normandy while on a Paris vacation. I’ll echo what others have said that have been there. It’s so difficult to be in such a peaceful place and try and understand how horrific that beautiful stretch of beach was that morning 76 years ago. Surreal is the best adjective, I think. The tour included being at the cemetery when taps played and the colors were lowered. I’m not ashamed to say the emotions of the day overwhelmed me right then and my eyes welled up. I had a lump in my throat the size of a softball. So many young lives lost. I salute you all.

 My Step-grandfather served in Korea- Chosin Resevior to be exact. He wouldn't speak to me about it till I myself was in service to this great Nation! I remember those who came before. If they hadn't I probably wouldn't be here. I arrived to freedom, Minus a mom at three days old to the greatest Country I know of. Thank you all!
