It's ok if it's an older forum it has functions I really like and is still quite active for being as old as you mentioned.

The current format was updated two years ago in 2018. It used to be a cumbersome format on Network54. Now it uses Taptalk which allows uploading of photos.

HyperScale is still one of the top aircraft modeling forums.

I like to have a variety of forums, at least two on one subject. Well I just stumbled onto Hyperscale Forums and I'm just curious if anyone else here is active there as well. It seems to be very active and no photo hosting site is needed to post photos. They also have like buttons which are extremely convenient. The visual format is not as good as Finescale but it works. Just another good source to gain information from.

 

 

 

 

Yes, but only on the tank talk portion. Hyper Scale is one of the older model forums that pulled membership away from the old USENET newsgroups. I'm thinking late 1990s when it started. If I were to guess, 1998 because the earliest mentions of it in rec.scale.models are in April 1998 by Brett Green himself.

I am a member of 3 forums, a photography oriented forum, a pro 2nd amendment forum and this one, I also peruse other forums from time to time, but I am not inclined to type on different forums about the same subject, I feel this is a very good forum for modelers eager to help fellow modelers when in trouble and a place were I can show what I can produce knowing and welcoming that the members will give me a constructive criticism about my work.

Not only spam, but one forum I used to spend a lot of time at was hacked and crashed completely. Years of important information lost to us as far as access. What made it particularly painful was that one of the founder's had passed away, much loved guy.

They probably were expecting you to reply "RMS Titanic." Not "The Titanic." "The" is NEVER part of a ship's name.

 I have tried to go to two different model ship related forums. When it gets to the security question is where I get angry. Here's an example. What ship sank in the North Atlantic on April 15th-1912? The Titanic , Right? They kept saying that was the wrong answer!

 Another asked a silly question accompanied by pictures of Mailboxes! They asked you to get the correct number. Well, failure there too. So I gave up on them.

 

I agree with you TB it's pretty silly. I had the same issue with the Schwinn bicycling forum. It kept asking silly questions and other things like how many traffic lights etc in the squares. I understand this is to keep robot spam crap away from their site but I too gave up on them.

i just looked around a litlle on Brit - so no comment there.

I've found Britmodeller's atmosphere to be very similar to FSM's -- the membership is uniformly genial and helpful, with little patience for prima donnas. (And they only occasionally make fun of the way we 'Yanks' misuse the language.) A real community atmosphere, with lots of humor....along with knowledgable members (who are very willing to share) and some top-notch modeling (or "modelling," as you prefer).

From a purely mechanical aspect, they have a 'like' button option that is very convenient...but no ascending/descending option, which is slightly more annoying.

And for those interested -- since it's member-supported -- they have a buy/sell forum [due to reopen soon after a pandemic temporary closure]. You have to be a member for a set period of time or minimum number of posts...I forget which...but that's just to screen out the riff-raff.

I go to Hyperscale, too.  There's a lot of good info there, and some real professionals-people who research and author books on various subjects.  But I find the tone there frequently grouchy.  Sarek of Vulcan sez....

But seriously, there are probably some other forums with the same characteristic.

Treefrog Treasures Toy Soldier Forum:  https://forum.treefrogtreasures.com/forum.php  As the name suggests, it's a toy soldier forum, mostly collectors, though there are those of us who paint (or cast and paint) figures, as well as collect them.

Those are the forums I belong to and in which I participate as a member.  I also visit Aircraft Resource Center, Modeling Madness, Cybermodeler.

I have used Armorama and looked at Britmodeller.  Armorama is good ive found and i just looked around a litlle on Brit - so no comment there.  

Armorama, Britmodeller and LSP are also very good.

One past member from here introduced me to another site across the pond where the moderator's name is Andy but I can't find the site at all. I too was a member but lost the info once I replaced my old computer a while back.

Thanks folks I'm gonna check those others out as well. Too much time on my hands these days.

I do indeed browse on all of the above...plus ww1-models.org...but the only others I've actually joined to post on are Britmodeller.com (active) and Papermodelers.com (occasional).

That's one of my favorite things- how fellow modelers pass along sites with interesting content.

There was a very good one for the Airfix/ Heller Victory, but I think it's gone now.
