Nearly 4 weeks ago two of our grandchildren came to stay with us for a few days, an 11 yo boy and a 9 and1/2 yo girl. The 9 and1/2 is very important as she reminds me all the time that she is nearly 10. Anyway, both had scooters and skateboards, so I took them to the local skatepark. The 11yo has no fear and was soon jumping and speeding all over the place. The 9 and a 1/2 yo was not so confident and was proceeding very carefully. I asked the 11 yo to show his sister a couple of low key tricks, to which he readily agreed, but she was still very shy and unsure. Anyway, in steps 63 yo grandad and ofers to try the trick first to boost her confidence and then she can have a go. Right. Wrong. 30 seconds later I'm lying in the bottom of the skate park with two breaks in my left ankle, a break in the tibia just below the left knee, the cartlidge, (or whatever it is), torn from the knee cap and the inside of the knee cap looking like a tossed salad.
So now I am 3 weeks into not being able to put any weight on my left leg and some months from being able to use the left knee. How did it help my modelling? My wonderful wife and a good mate have set me up at the dining room table and I have gone back to braile scale armour to pass the next few weeks. As I have been out of the hobby for a while, its a great way to rediscover some old skills. Mind you, old Airfix kits are a heck of a reintroduction. Is there anywhere on them that does not have sink holes??????
Moral of the story. My 9 and a 1/2 yo grandaughter is a hell of a lot smarter than her 63 yo grandfather!
