No offense to the father, but he was not the first confirmed fatality. That would have been in the air at the hands of the hijacking terrorists. They murdered flight crew to prevent them from being able to regain control of the aircraft. Then followed by the first aircraft to impact the tower with all aboard and in their path. The father had the misfortune to perish in one piece afterwards instead of mass flaming anonymity. But yes, a prayer for him and all the others, Fire, Medical, and Cops, who ran towards the danger and sacrificed their lives that day.

The term I should have used was "certified", always identified as Victim 001.

In my military life and in studying history, I've found chaplains and medics (doctors. nurses, medics/corpsmen) to be among the bravest individuals I've met or read about.  It's one thing to go into combat with a rifle or other weapon, its another thing to go into combat with a only medical bag.  The chaplain went into danger when he really didn't have to... that's courage.

First or last casualty doesn't detract from what he did.
