Last year the wife and I went on a 2 week cruise around the UK , the Channel Islands and Normandy and never had time for even a thought about modeling. Enjoy the R&R and enjoy the quality time.  Toast

Thanks Ed, I should have looked at a map.

I've driven to Kitty Hawk and then on to Virginia Beach before.

And I've driven to Wilmington and then on to Myrtle Beach before but never from Kitty Hawk to either. Guess I didn't notice how far it would be to drive to one or the other.

Again thanks for the correction Ed.

Well Kitty Hawk should be enough to get your modeling juices flowing. There's also the battleship USS North Carolina in Wilmington.

Round trip from Kitty Hawk to the USS North  Carolina is about 9+ hours   That's a nice way of saying you can't get there from here

Gamera

In Virginia Beach/Norfolk you have the battleship USS Wisconsin and the Mariner's Musuem. And the Military Aviation Museum/Fighter Factory- lots of beautiful vintage aircraft and they all fly.

Norfolk/Newport News/Hampton is still about 3 hours round trip, if you catch the traffic there just right ...

Myrtle beach is roughly 12 hour RT

Plan on making a relaxing vacation of it.  Fly kites on Jockeys Ridge.  Drive down to Hatteras light & climb to the top.   Take the free ferry from Hatteras to Okracoke island.  Take some bread or French fries to feed the gulls on the way.   Enjoy the shops and galleries in Okracoke.  Visit the graves of the English sailors killed during a WWII sub attack.   Enjoy some fresh NC seafood    The fried shrimp is great, hush puppies set it off

I'd recommend the eastern NC barbecue (vinegar & red pepper), but you really need to be farther west in Kinston/Greenville/Rocky Mount/Wilson to get the good stuff.  Go much beyond Durham and it goes indistinct.

Hey;

Just enjoy the trip. I love the area where you are going. Been there many times while R.V.Ing. You might find a Hobby shop and maybe Not. Don't let it stop you from getting cool ideas for the great return to the Bench!

Spend time with the Wright Brothers in Kill Devil Hills.   If you're jonesing too bad the gift shop may have some plastic for a fix.

Else, not too much in eastern NC.   I remember 45 years ago Hunnicutts Hobby left Greenville NC for Durham & better business

The only shop in eastern NC on the IPMS store locator database is in Fayetteville/Ft Bragg

Sorry, but living on the other side of the world I can't help you with the hobby shops. Have a great time though and treat the wife, cos that'll get you brownie points for when you get back to the bench.

Wise words Tojo.  I also enjoy betting a dollar or two on NFL games.  I think the only 2 casinos that allow sports betting are the Native American casinos in that part of the state.

Have fun on vacation, I live in the far western part of the state in the mountains, like a different state out here. Not familiar with the hobby shop situation over there. Look at this way, they say absence makes the heart grow fonder, so it will be that much better when you get back to the bench.

Enjoy and stay safe.

So my wife and I are off to a much needed vacation.  With the danger of Covid we decided just to drive to the outer banks NC.  I know it will be relaxing and enjoyable but I wonder how much I will miss my modeling sessions.  I started the hobby almost a year ago and have enjoyed spending my free time building.  It would be a nice treat to visit a hobby shop while away but a google search found no shops in the area.  Does anyone know a shop I can visit in Kill Devil Hills, Duck, Kitty Hawk (how does Kitty Hawk not have a hobby shop?), or the Outer Banks area?  This will be my first visit.
