I don't know why you have this personal vandetta with me but you need to let it go mr. the baron.  

I don't have a vendetta, and I don't have to let anything go, because I'm not holding on to anything.  It's just amusing how you got so upset in the past, and how you reacted.  And this situation reminded me of it, that's all.

Tank-Builder, just remember what Sgt. Joe Friday used to say, "Just the facts ma'am."  Stick to the facts of the matter and you won't have to be so long-winded!

TB seems to have stepped into the shoes of a forum member who was from Chicago, if I remember his location correctly, and who by his own admission, posted really just to spark discussion.  I can't remember his handle exactly, "modelsomething" and a number, maybe?

He'd post questions like, "Which is better-airbrushing or hand-brushing?", "Which is better-acrylic or enamel paint",  "Which ocean is better-the Atlantic or the Pacific?" and so on (OK, I'm kidding about the ocean question, that's a movie reference).

He got upset, and I mean the pouty, petulant, "Poor me, poor me!" kind of upset, when some of us challenged him on the practice.  I remember he edited his posts to remove all the text, and threatened to leave the forum altogether.

TB can post whatever he likes, as long as he doesn't violate the forum rules.  And I'm with the last couple of you, that I just learned to ignore posts that don't interest me, and to scroll on.

I sypathize with you sir. When I tried to generate some interaction I was roundly chastised just as you have been! I know the feeling. Very un-sympathetic bunch here. No tolerance for anything not in their liking. I hope you well. Maybe a local church group or VFW can help.

    Hey! you hit the nail right on the head. I have had four very close friemds pass in the last four months. Yeah, One a month! and I will admit I was  feeling lonly as heck. Now I had another drop in my lap right here at home. My Doctor said reach out to those with a common interest In something. So I did!

I vaguely remember that incident.

But as a veteran, we've been conditioned to spot "signs" because so many of us commit suicide when no one heeded their subtle signs. Yet here, I am castigated for asking if this was a cry for help or a request for assistance.

I'd rather hurt someone's wittle feewings than to ignore a plea.

While I have wondered too what TB is doing with those long pointless hard to follow posts, and posting in a great quantity of new threads at once- I generally have just got to where I ignore them and go on to another thread. 

It doesn't affect me but gives me concern for the well being of the OP.

That's what I was alluding to; a large number of new posts from the same person at the same time all with vague topics and many with little to no replies. Looks like an attempt to enter into dialog with others due to loneliness.

They are so long and meandering I kind of don't bother anymore.

 Quit with your babblin' Ole Man LOL!!  I just give you grief about it cuz I can HE-HE-HE...  Like many have said, they don't mind and even look forward to reading your posts. If they don't like it, they can move on past them.

Besides Pops, how many years you been telling me "don't let the negativity get to me"?? Ramble away ya coot, besides, you know it's how I keep tabs on ya when we're not able to talk

   You remember Paul Harvey?  I used to love his radio show! I thought that was the way Tim Bodette was going. I guess Commercials pay more. I know they did for me.  But, all mine were local area work. 

What I'm saying is to put your main point in the title or the first line of the post. Then feel free to "take us down the logic trail" to show us why you are making the point.

For example, my main point of this post is the first sentence I wrote above. If the main point is stated clearly and early, you will know what direction the post is going without having to wait for Paul Harvey's page 2.

Stating the main post also lets readers know if the subject is one they know about or are interested in learning more about.

     Thank you sir. This was not a cry for help believe me. I am just in a situation where there is rarely conversation in the home, and at the Museum it is only about Trains. Although My landlady is a Hobbyist "Stained Glass", She is not very coversational otherwise.

 So I tend to ramble, I thought after reading one of my own posts. It just stacks up inside til I have to let it out. I will try to be more informative about the subjects,  That's where the Ramblin comes in. But yer still gonna have to learn how I got to that point or process. That means sometimes skip a few lines if the word journey get windy. LOL.LOL. Thanks, Man!

   The biggest problem here in New Braunfels,Tx. is I can't seem to find any fellow modelers to sit and chew the fat with.

That is one of my pet peeves, vague topic titles. If I don't have a clue as to the information you are asking for, I won't click it since that would just waste my time.

If someone was asking about sailing ships, German aircraft markings, trains, etc., I have no institutional knowledge and won't enter the discussion since I have no knowledge to add.

That's the Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF) I was talking about earlier.

There are some subjects I'd be interested in learning more about, so a clearer topic title might draw me into the discussion since I'd like to learn about it.

On the subject of your post titles... Your paint brush post, the subject is obvious as the sun from its‘ title. Your post on the Molotow chrome pens, the actual post subject is as opaque as Bosnian coffee from the title. If you’re gonna change anything, start on your titles.

Not to pick on TB exclusively, but there are a lot of post titles these days that contain no clue as to the subject. [That's not just this forum, by the way...it seems to be rampant pretty much everywhere.]

When I bring up the forum on my phone...which is most of the time...I don't even see category headings like armor or aircraft or whatever. So when I see a post title like "Check this out..." or "Here's something...," I just can't be bothered. Life's too short, and there are too many other things to catch up with.

If you want me to look...give me some faint clue as to what I'm looking at. PLEASE.

And as for 'rambling'...TB, your ruminations are uniquely your own. Few enough people have a personal 'style.' Stick with what works. Anybody who doesn't care for it has plenty of other stuff to look at.

I’ve gotta say that I’m with Rob on this. TB, your enthusiasm shines thru in your writing, but after a paragraph or two on in, I am often wondering what is the point of many of your posts. It’s often not stated in the post title, which routinely look like “click bait” to me. And if I don’t see where it’s going after those first couple paragraphs, I lose interest and go back elsewhere. Not to mention that I’m less likely to look at those future posts of yours that have ambiguous titles.

Sometimes a long winding post is needed to make a point properly. Other times less will do quite well. There’s a time for both in writing.

You obviously enjoy writing about the things you enjoy, and your enjoyment shines through, and that is the hallmark of a good writer, whether you are posting on an Interweb forum or writing a best-selling novel. You're not writing for the Army on this forum. And I speak as a former newspaper and Squadro/Signal editor.

 

He noted that he is "rambling". Personally, I see no issue with it. But if a person thinks they are rambling, then maybe it is cry for help, or more accurately a request for assistance in making his post more germaine or clearer.

When I see someone ask for help, I try to provide some assistance. But I often forget where I am; if someone asks for a critique on their build here, anyone who says anything beyond "great job" is often met with resistance.

I guess the same holds true for assistance in writing posts.

So I will tell you there are plenty of times I don't want to read those multiple paragraphs,many times I just check in to look at some builds or offer an answer, and I can't deal with it,so I dont get offended, I just don't read it,thats my choice, other times I choose to read and engage,so really don't worry about it.

TB employed a similar tactic on the SA forum a few months back. He started a thread asking if he had offended anyone, and if so he was sorry for his actions. Eventually someone called him out on it, by the time the thread had run it's course the only person that was offended was TB. What I didn't understand about the thread on SA was why even go there. I still feel the same way here now on FSM, Why?

You do seem to post prolifically, which is not necessarily a bad thing, although sometimes it is difficult to see your point through all the verbage and "rambling."

I was raised on The Army Writing Program. The Army Writing Program came about as a way to end verbose third person memorandums and orders.

One of the main points is to "put the bottom line up front" also known as the "BLUF".

Get the main point of your post up there in the first line or perhaps even the title of the post.

For example, instead of your title "I Guess I should Change my Screen Name?" it could more accurately entitled "Do I ramble when I post?".

Cobber I'm with the other blokes, don't change a thing. I actually look for your posts because I enjoy them and always learn something. Keep it up!
