What was I thinking...
Posted by Bakster on Saturday, November 28, 2020 11:51 AM

Boredom has set in. I am waiting for decals to arrive for my current project, thus placing it on hold. Not much on TV, and with COVID still flying around, not much else to do. It is sheer boredom.

As a result, I relented to boredoms will. I decided to start another project. That is a big deal for me because I am a one project at a time kind of guy. Even still. The project must follow strict criteria. It must be quick to build, something fun, and something that will grab my interest. Otherwise, I'd prefer to stay bored because my heart is not in it.

Into the dark recesses I went. I keep most of my stash in a crawlspace behind my bench. Hunched over, flashlight in hand, I entered the black hole, ever fearful of what my cats left behind for me.

Egads. The models are covered in 20 plus years of dust. Some of the boxes are so dust laden that they are barely legible. Though, many of them are sitting there for 20 plus years, the majority were purchased 10 years earlier. There are probably 30 models sitting there. SURELY, I can find something in that dusty lot.

Let me see now... Nope! Nope! Nope! As I was going through them, now on my hands and knees to reach them, singular thoughts kept coming up. That is. Watch out for cat puke, and WTH was I thinking when I bought that? Many of the models are car kits and many are far from exciting. In today's mindset, I can not see an instance where I would ever invest time building them. Not in this lifetime. My oh my... how my interests have changed. Another thing became clear. I have to do something with these kits! They need a home! Woody would be broken hearted to know that they sat lifeless for over 30 years. Stick out tongue

Sigh.

What to do now. Nothing grabs me from my derilict stash. Buy one? Yeah ... that's the ticket. Searching...searching... nothing grabs me. Then in a moment of inspiration, bam! How about building the Jonny Quest Dragonfly kit? Its easy, fun, and I could even gift it to my brother who is a big fan. I am a fan as well, but he takes the cake.

After a long search to locate one locally, and after being told they don't stock it, I drive over to my local HobbyTown. Something told me, go check. And what do you know, they have one.

I started working on it last night and all the correct wheels of imagination are spinning.

THE END

Didn't know that Moebius kit existed, and I'd forgotten all about that neat aircraft.

I wonder how many Jonny Quest fans we have here? I sure was one, and I think I probably remember every episode. And Race Bannon, who didn't think Race was cool?

I remember it being on Friday nights, right around Flintstone time. I wonder if that is a true or a false memory, becuase it is more likely it was a Saturday morning cartoon.

One of the neat things about having an ancient stash is that you have the ability to trade those kits for one that currently piques your fancy.

I had a (bad) habit of buying kits on clearance whether or not they interested me. I ended up with a lot of good quality kits that didn't cost a lot that I have no problems trading for even lesser kits.

I like giving them away.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Hey Greg, I loved that cartoon too. Its possible it was aired on a Friday's but I only recall it Saturday mornings. That is when I watched it. Maybe they switched it later?

This is turning out to be a fun kit. I spent a few hours today opening up the windows. I plan to light it up. The kit has some issues. There are a fair amount of sinkmarks. Also, this is not a defect but, I feel the panel lines are way to large. I hate when manufactures do that. But whatever. It should look cool anyway. I will post pictures when I am done.

GMorrison

I like giving them away.

Yeah I might do the same. I doubt I could get much if I tried to sell them. I remember a post to donate models to.  I think it was for vets. Donating mignt be the way to go for me.

That is probably what I did. Some of the choices I made do not make sence. So buying cheap might have been my motivation.
