Practically every penny went into my kiddo's orthrodontic treatment. Between Phase 1 which she had done a few years ago, and Phase 2 there is like 7 grand going into her mouth. When I was her age the total treatment for me was around 3 grand. It's more than doubled since then.
Just found a Legend cockpit set on Ebay. Its for an E, but I'll probably be able to cobble things together and get a decent result. Had pretty good luck with Legend's stuff for the multitudes of other aircraft in my stash.
"You can have my illegal fireworks when you pry them from my cold, dead fingers...which are...over there somewhere."
Picked up that one a few years ago, and wirraway was kind enough to donate a full PE set for her, and I added resin intakes and cans. Also added the E and G. Haven't had the confidence to get started on it yet.
Doing the Tamiya C/D as Ritchie's ride from Udorn when I was there.
Glad you guys have had good experiences with these. I took a look at the sprues and I was pretty impressed with the engraved detail...might even be able to church up the stock cockpit if I can't find good resin for it at this point. Not sure if I can pull it off, but I'd like to make it a 1/32 scale resurrection of the K-Town Phantom I got to see when I was working on C-21s at Ramstein a few years ago.
stikpusher Man I love those Revell 1/32 Phantoms! They need a little help, but they make impressive looking builds once completed

I have the G and E and the only thing they need IMO is a resin pit. The pits on these seem to be pretty weak in details but the rest of the kit is very nice and way cheaper than Tamiya.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!

Ben, hope the Harrier goes well for you. I have one of those also...not sure when I'm gonna be bold enough to tackle that monster. Hoping some good aftermarket stuff eventually shows up for it.
Picked this one up a couple of weeks ago from a guy on Ebay who has a lot of discontinued model kits.
GM, sorry to hear about your hard loss. I know several people locally who had a similar fate. Fortunately most of them were able to close the business and retire with enough funds to live comfortably. While my 401K lost 78K, it is slowly recovering. I am someone fortunate enough to have dual retired incomes. Jarrod and I were also blessed with the ability and opportunity to help some of the homeless and those in poverty with food and clothes. I really hope you will find a silver lining somewhere in this economic mess.
As for my stimulus payments, I'm saving most of it (as is my wife and son). I did manage to pluck these away from a couple vendors:
My wife is thinking of using some of the funs on a repaint of our great room / dining room areas and possibly a new area rug.

Nope. Hobby related stuff does not take priority over real life priority with stimulus checks. Oh yeah.. IBTL.
Bill, all I can say is that the reason I personally come to hobby sites like this is to see discussions like what TB started here that, to me, represent some semblance of positive normalcy in this world that none of us dreamed would come to be. None of us know the kinds of hardships this past year has brought to anybody here. As for me, the 2019/2020 year was an almost yearlong fight in a battle I was lucky enough to have a 63% chance of winning. I won that battle, so I'm just thankful to still be here on this side of the astroturf and not pushing up daisies. I'm enjoying the stories about cameras and other hobby-related (or non-hobby-related) things being shared here. I had to dip into savings too, for maximum out-of-pocket medical costs, but I'm alive and still in a position where I can earn a good income. The glass is half-full for me, and I just can't bring myself to begrudge anybody here for their individual situations.
My first went to charitable causes, the second went to groceries and to food from locally owned restaurants. When the third one comes, maybe it goes to charity again.
I have been working this whole time, so I really should not be getting stimulus checks. But there are people who really do need it, so I wish there was a way for the government to figure it out.
So, no stimulus $$$ going to the hobby for me.
“Ya ya ya, unicorn papoi!”
The pandemic caused us to lose our business. I an about 100K in debt.
I had to protect our life savings by going back to work.
Fortunately I landed a senior exec position that will allow us to restore our savings in 5 years, when I'm 72.
Help my hobby? Are you kidding???
Listen, I was a successful small business owner until the Government totally flucked up on the response to the epidemic with a response that was based on 1950's economic theory.
Those of you on military or government pensions; I suggest you think about the rest of us who self financed our incomes.
So if you think the reconstruction financing ( it is NOT a stimulus) is money lost, all I can say is I can't answer your knocking at my (closed) business door.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
I am hoping to replace my 1957 Homart furnace and AC system. Once that old beast is out of my basement, my modeling space will increase by 75%.
Be careful of what you ask for, you just might get it.
stikpusher cbaltrin You'll see once inflation starts going through the roof... and your taxes go thru the roof as well... somebody has to pay for all the giveaways... what schools seem to fail to teach is that all of the government's money comes from our pockets.

My same thoughts stik. Hold on to your wallet cause nexts year's tax filing is gonna hurt. Nothing in life is free. As for the money I got goes to pay for part of my property taxes come this November.
MJames70 https://www.usdebtclock.org/ The debt per citizen by their estimates is about $85,000. However the debt per taxpayer is almost $224,000.

And that stimulus check spending will be proof the economy has recovered, and the pay raise demand will show up in the next three to four months. And it won't be limited to those making more than 400K as promised, like the CEO promised.
modelcrazyI heard somewhere that each and every American, newborns and all, would have to pay $160,000 to pay down the debt. Hang on, I got that right here in my pocket....Now I'm paid off, how about you?
As soon as the government found out all the taxpayers were sending them checks for $160,000, they'd immediately start spending twice that per taxpayer. Its the kind of thing that happens when very few of our elected officials come from a background where they ever had to be concerned about budgets or managing money. What they do is the equivalent of any one of us going to the Ferrari dealership on a Saturday and buying a Ferrari, followed by going to our boss first thing Monday morning and demanding a raise to pay for it.
Yes, I'm looking up basic numbers... population north of 330 million, taxpayers as of 2019, ~141million... less than half the population... into 1.7 trillion? Somehow that bill is looking very long term to pay... and that's on top of previously existing debt. I do believe that WWII is paid off now, or about to be.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

1.9 Trillion divided by 750, among a population of 350 million, not all of whom pay taxes... somehow the math gets ugly here....
Completely agree. That's what I keep telling my wife, yeah it's nice, but government givaways aren't free. I see a lock coming........

Yep - fortunate to not qualify for any of them.

On the Bench: Too Much
Not one bit of help for my models or anything else. The wife and I don't qualify for the latest giveaway that all taxpaying Americans are funding.
