ON MEMORIAL DAY
The view across those lines of stones
Implores reflection on their plight
Who fell in service for a cause
Who did not shirk from that great fight
These honored dead are but a glimpse
Of millions gone before
Who guarded once their beloved land
And now guard heaven’s door
And be it on some foreign soil
Or upon this nations ground
The men and women honored here
Of wills beyond profound
Conscripts and volunteers alike
Are gathered in this hallowed place
They gave their all and crossed the dark
To where the light shines on their face
They bore the brunt of battle
And fought at our behest
We gaze upon the empty chairs
And know they surely were our best

"Why do I do this? Because the money's good, the scenery changes and they let me use explosives, okay?"
