Yeah, I remember those contest flyers in kits. And being a member of the Revell Master Modelers Club... once upon a time...I still have an old catalog of theirs and a issue of the club magazine around here somewhere...

On The Bench: Tamiya 1/32nd Mitsubishi A6M5 Model 52 Zeke For Japanese Group Build
Build one at a time? Hah! That'll be the day!!
How about how MPC used to have its 'Golden Opportunity' promotion? Even the smallest kit came with at least 2 tokens, and 10 tokens would get you a small free kit, and on up to one of the bigger items at 100 tokens. To my knowledge, Airfix is the only one still doing anything similar. But you have to pay to be a club member to participate in the first place
Well modeling was targeted more for kids back then as opposed to adults nowadays.
Yeah, that's true. Not many kids can afford the prices of kits nowadays. Even Monogram kits. The cheapest I've seen of those kits is right at $17, which is cheap for us with jobs, but not so for kids. I wonder if that's intentional on the part of the manufactures (aim more towards the adults with the pricing), or is it a result of rising oil prices and licensing costs?
The H-D dirtbikes (as well as small two stroke street bikes) were built by Amerrichi of Italy.

Yes I remember belonging to the club and the Get It Together quarterly magazine.I remember making the California Van model withe cool spiral graphics.
Earlier, in the mid-fifties, Monogram had a big contest for their Speedi-bilt kits. Local hobby shops could participate. My model-building friend and I entered our built models at a big hobby shop in Ferndale, MI (a suburb of Detroit). We were thrilled with the results- My friend won 1st place with his Spad, I got second with a P-40.
There was no national winner, just those local contests, but the local trophies were very nice.
Don Stauffer in Minnesota
Hi Don, it is odd you should mention Ferndale. I am sitting at my desk at work a couple miles from there in Detroit.... 7 mile and Schaefer. (which I'm sure you know is Coolidge Hwy north of 8 mile) So you live in Minnesota now?
Good Memories, before Detroit was Detroilet.
Rudy
"Detroilet!" I love it!
I remember the old "Master Modelers' Club!" The magazine, the "tools" (which came on a red sprue and were pretty much useless, especially the clamps) and so forth.
