Forum header/Do you know this aircraft?
Posted by Pawel on Saturday, December 10, 2016 3:35 PM

Hello!

I noticed the Forums now have a very nice header with this baby here:

TS-11 Iskra

As you can see it carries Polish markings and it's a successful Polish trainer aircraft - the TS-11 Iskra (meaning "Spark" in Polish). Gets me a nice, warm feeling every time I use the forums now!

Thanks for lookin' and have a nice day

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will find your aircraft.  Surprise

Not as uncommon as you think!

Milairjunkie - dang, that's impressive - the store itself, and the fact that they crammed a 1:1 aircraft there, too!

GAF - thanks a lot for the link!

Once I read a story about the Iskra. There was this rare instance where there was a fly-off held to see which aircraft will be the trainer for all the Warsaw-Pact countries. During the contest a mishap happened, FOD damage - the Iskra sucked in a rag. Everybody thought that was it for the Iskra, but the design of the aircraft is such that you can remove the whole rear section of the aircraft for service and the mechanics were able to replace the engine in the matter of hours thus returning the aircraft to the contest, by the way impressing everybody, too. But in the end the L-29 Delfin won and it is said it's because one of the Czech officials invited the Soviet generals to his hunting cabin, tipping the scales in favour of the Delfin. Anyhow the Iskra was used i Poland and also exported outside of the Warsaw Pact.

Thanks for reading and have a nice day

Well, Fermis, your post sounded quite mysterious... Now you clarified it a bit - by Jack do you mean that Japanese fighter, right?

Have a nice day

Remember the old 94th Aero Squadron restaurants that had full size replica aircraft hanging inside them?
