Because this is the UK old boy, we have to be offended over somthing or our day is not complete.

Though i will say that £32.99 for a plastic house is a bit much. I hope it comes with running water.

Amen to that brother! They do understand completely and are playing the politically correct BS game. Just look to what hapenned with the Dukes of Hazzard car's flag. What about all the ruined buildings done by Mini Art? Will those be next?

If you look at the comments underneath, you can see quite a few model builders pointing our other ruined building sets both by Airfix and others.

And i would like to meet all these Afghan vets who are sickened by this. They don't sound like any of the squaddies i know.

Notice this 'British veterans of the Afghanistan campaign have described the model – which includes a pile of debris left by a bomb blast – as ‘sick’ and MPs too have expressed disbelief over the product.'

Yet they quote just one MP and one UK soldier. The former a labour MP and the latter probably an army cadet.

No one takes the daily hate very seriosuly, if they do then no one takes them seriously anyway.

Airfix has done a few of these building kits over the years. Some intact, some not. If it was a WWII European farm house or church would they get so upset? It’s all just part of the history of war.

Perhaps they are sickened by models of Challenger Tanks or Tornado bombers that might have caused the damage,or the myriad of German,Russian,French,Italian destroyed buildings available.

I believe this one is a re-release. last year one of the guys at the club brough in a 48th Airfix warrior with damaged Afghan building. So why this is an issue now i have no idea. Must have been a slow day at the office.

Whatever. The Daily Mail is hardly worth worrying much about, a real stretch to take it seriously. Along the lines of the National Enquirer.

That is funny! Toast

One thing comes to mind is the general public sees no difference between a toy and a scale model. If you're reading this, you already know the difference. A toy is, well, a toy. A scale model is something we put lots of work into to try to recreate something.

Were this Airfix kit marketed as a child's toy, well, wait a minute........I still wouldn't be offended. So much for that line of thinking then.

Edit: and btw, this article title wouldn't work in the US, because 'sick' doesn't mean sick anymore. Due to to further and sadly rapid decline of the beautiful English language by us (thank you very much Bow Down).......I think 'sick' now means 'very cool', or something like that. I don't really bother to try to keep up anymore.

Urban slang seems to have taken precedence over our language as I knew it. I actually thought this is what this topic might be about!

It’s not a toy, it’s a model kit  for a diorama for Christ sake!

This thread got my thinking, has then ever been a kit of a bombed out London house? Like one would have found during the Blitz? Not that I want to build one, I'm just wondering if reactions would be different.

What if someone released a kit of the wreckage of the WTC? That would upset me.

By the way, I loved the Daily Mail Song, thanks for that!

I thinjk the difference there is you are talking about a specific event, you can put names and faces to it.

I don't think there would be any issues with a London house, any more than any of the houses that are on the market, French, German, Italian etc.

And you ask if anyone has done a bombed out London house. Field of Glory has this.

TB do you realize that the Daily Mail is not a real exercise in journalism. It's like the ones in the checkout line at the Piggly. It's a total joke of a newspaper.

"Woman becomes pregnant in the mouth after eating baby squid". That kind of thing.

Bish, perhaps one of your countrymen could send them a Miniart catalog and give the whole staff a collective massive heart attack... ruins all across Europe, the mid East, and North Africa!!!

O, they would not be worried about ruins in the Mid east or Africa, but somthing in dear old blighty would deffinetly cause tremours.

Notice in the orignal article that its not Afghans they are worried about upsetting, you know, the ones who might have lived in such a building. Its British veterens they seem concerned about. Because as we know, British vets are such delicate flowers and are very very senstive and need people like the Mail to be offeneded on their behalf.

I would switch my sarcasim off, but after 48 years, i still can't find the damn button.

Bish, there are things that trigger overseas service memories for me, those deep ones, but it sure isn’t models...

At 62 mine is frozen in the on position. I do see this article as a farce anyhow. It's not a reasonable point of view and I don't really see how anyone could much share it.

All I will say is that we will need to get used to more of this rhetoric from the media.  I continue to brush it off until the point that protesters start picketing model shows.
