JERSEYCON Show October 19th and 17th

As the first show I have gone to as a member of the club and helped out mostly on friday cause I had to leave early on Sat, I thought it was a goo show and turnout considering the weather and other shows. One thing I have to say is the club is full of great guys my Dad went who is not a member and even he commented on how nice the members are, I only wish I couldve stayed and looked in on the judging,had to be tough there was some great models there. but I had a prior engagement.Looking forward to the next meeting in Nov. and Misquitocon in April.Hopefully I will have somthong finished to enter my first show. Just wanted to thank the guys from the club for a good show and appoligize that I couldnt do more on sat but I had to be back in Piscataway by 1:00 for a pasta dinner I was working at,at the American Legion I belong to.(which did well also) I would also like to thank Wing_nut for inviting me to the club only wish I had done it years ago as I have learned alot in the 6 months of membership.

Yeah, rain and cold... But it was a great show. Congrats to all the organizing committee.

I found the vendors area ok. You could find almost everything, considering the size of the convention.

The MosquitoCon references were more because we are the same guys who put on MosquitoCon every year (happy to hear you like that show!).    As a IPMS/USA Region II show, this one moves from year to year (next year will be in Richmond, VA), and this was the first one in NJ since the defunct Garden State Scale Modelers Club hosted the show in 1987.   The last time our club hosted the Regional was in 1982 (at the same hotel).

As for the fee, it is in line with previous Regional conventions - which are traditionally 2 day shows - which means our costs are higher than a one day show like MosquitoCon.  There was also the opportunity for folks to pre-register and get a reduced rate, which some did.

At the end of the day, we had 89 registrants who placed 410 models on the table.   Yes, it was smaller than MosquitoCon, but we are pretty please with how everything turned out.

Sorry to hear the turn out wasn't that great - the weather definitely wasn't cooperating.  The Mosquitcon in April is definitely a great show.  Regarding the vendors, my advise is to get there early - within the 1st hour it opens.  I had been going for a few years, and had I thought the good deals just weren't there anymore. But then I was getting there later and later around 11:30 or so.  Last year, I got there by 9:30 and there were great deals. I had to leave around 11:00 to pick up my son, and by the time I got back at around 1:30, those deals were gone. One guyy had about 3 dozen kits (but great prices) had already packed up and left.

The show on Long Island is the Region 1 show.  Region 2 will be in Ricjmond, VA.

oh yea, theres no doubt that the kits were top notch.  I took a long time looking at the internals of some of those attack helicopters that had the doors and engine compartments open.

I hope you guys had enough people to judge, I was going to stay but I was running on 4 hours of sleep and I dont think I could have concentrated that hard at that point.

If there isnt going to be another jerseycon next year I guess ill enter my stuff in mosquitocon, will be more people to contend with but oh well

Don't get me worng, I like it for my 1st show and all. I guess I was hoping for more and from what I have been reading the MosquitoCon is the show to go to and Wing I know you said it was FAR from where I live but I think I am going to go to the next show there. and I just might bring a kit or to, to enter

Thanks to all of you that could make it to the show.  We had a couple of things working against us.  First was the weather.  The second was that there are 2 other shows this weekend up north.  But the turnout wasn't horrible and considering the weather was worse the further south you went, we were happy to see entrants at least as fair away as Virginia.

There won't be a JerseyCon next year.  An IPMS Regional is much like the Nats in that it moves.  Next year it will be on Long Island and will be held in the aircraft museum at Farmingdale airport.  That should be a terrific venue.  From what I was told NJ has not hosted a regional for about 20 years and I am guessing a lot of that has to do with MosquitoCon, our annual show.  That show has a long history and a very good reputation.  The '09 show was the biggest and best yet

I don't care too much about the vendors either but I have to agree it was very armor light

What I will say about the show though is that the quality on the tables very high.  It really was the cream of the crop.  As the head armor judge I can tell you there was not a singe easy choice that could be made and heard similar comments

you most likley saw wingnut as well, but didnt Know it was him, he was at the entrance table for a bit, atleast he was when I got there.

I wasnt taken aback fyi, I had just eaten a half hour before

Went to the show today.  The only other comparison show I have is Mosquitocon and that was much better.  However, with that said, this was nice cause it was close to home.  The display room was pretty good.  Got to see the forced perception diorama of the longest day again.  That was pretty good.  Also, a midair collision of a 109 and an early P-51.  That was pretty nice.  One thing that did strike me though, with all of the single engine 1/48 scale planes, many of them used stretched sprue or fishing line as antennae, but weren't painted.  I was pretty surprised.  Maybe I'm being too critical. 

I did get to meet smeagol there.  Other than him, that was it.  Hopefully he wasn't too taken aback by me.  It was a decent show.  I'll be there next year probably.

well, Ill be entering atleast 2 Ma.k kits, I might enter a few of my older gundam kits, I wana touch up the paint and redo one part on my Gyan, if I do it will be one of my best finished kits, actuially, just need more spraypaint (it was done with tamiya gold and purple).

You saw that AtRt kit that was there, I have it but I actuially painted mine, I may bring that as well. and maybe my PG zaku II

Haha, yeah that seems like a good idea. Looked like a lot of guys had a lot of kits in several different subjects. I only entered the one model because its the only one I've built that I thought was show worthy. I didn't get a good look at the sci fi section today but I did like the Tie Fighter and the lit up Enterprise (?). Maybe I'll put my AT-AT in there next year and give you a run for your money...

I built the rusty old 1968 Firebird 400. I got smoked in that category by the Ferarri which was really good. I wonder if the judges have a preference for clean cars....mine was quite an eye sore! I'm generally an armor and aircraft builder so it was kinda funny that my first contest entry was an auto. But I'm addicted to the thrill so I'll have to put something together for the next show. What kits did you enter?

See first convention I was ever at was mosquito con, there were people there with a venor table selling kits for SUPER cheap, like seriously cheap.  I got rare stuff I hadent seen before, and stuff I had been after and got extras, like a Emhar whippit tank that had AM tracks in the box, but this one, it was all normal stuff and no real deals except the one guy with paint, I should have bought all of it, 3 bottles for 2$ holy crap.

the only thing that caught my eye but I didnt feel like going for it, was one vendor had 1/35th scale midevil japanese village people kits but the details on the faces and such were to soft for my liking

I thought it was a decent show with most subjects getting great representation. Vendors don't bother me cuz I don't buy much there any how, though I did pick up 2 aircraft kits for 2 dollars. Albeit, they were older kits but should still be fun to work on. It was my first entry into a contest and though I didn't place in my category, I'll just have to try harder next time! Good show, and congrats to those of you who did bring some hardware home!

Well I was there today and only meet Wing_Nut for a min or 2, other then that it was 2 or 3 small rooms and a hallway with kits for sale.

1st time at one of these and I hope the next one will be better.
