Are you building more than one model at a time?

I'm new to modeling, but I, too, have a few in the works at a time. I am presently working on a Mini Cooper and a 1/48 F-16. They should both be finished today and then I will move onto MiG-17 and an F-117. I will probably start my Corsair, too. So much to do, so little time!

I'm working on 1/32 A-10A N/AW, 1/48 Tiger 1 (full interior), 1/200 Space Shuttle, Junkers JU-88A-4, 1/350 USS Missouri, 1/48 Mess Bf-109G, 1/72 B-17F, and assorted scratch parts for all of the above, as well as miniatures for Warhammer. Why so many at once? Variety! If I get tired or burnt out on one project, there's just so much to chose from, and any particular gender I wish. Keeps the cogs clean, I guess. Call me crazy...

1:48 corsiar. My 5th corsair and my favortie plane of all time. Trying to do the classic 3 color scheme. A hassel with all the masking.

1:32 corsair, this is my special project for my desk at work. Started painting small things the other night.

1:48 german messerschmidt. Just began

Presently working on Academy's 1/72 JU-87G, which put their M151A1 back in the box temporarily. Also have Revell's 1/48 P-47D Razorback and '48 Ford Woody in various stages of completion. Oh yeah, AMT's '69 Catalina is in there too. So many models, so little time.

Yes, currently finishing the E3D sentry. And building a Lockheed Spectre from Italeri, a Gloster meteor from Tamiya, a Dornier do217 from Italeri, a Catalina from Revell, A Mustang from Airfix and a Harrier from Heller.

I have three going but my girlfriend says it's three too many. Thankfully, she puts up with it. 1/48 F-15E, kitbashing an AT-AT with an M1A1, and just opened a 1/48 B-1. I always like having more than one going because you can change the 'agenda' every once in a while. Like most of the others here, I have too many still awaiting deployment to the table, sitting in the closet. One day...

The key for doing multiple kits to me is, economy. By that, I mean doing the same kit in multiple scales, kits from the same era, or multple versions of the same kit.

Yeahp!! I usually have 3-4 models on the run. I actually have : 1/48 Mig-21PF Academy, 1/48 A-4C Hasegawa, 1/48 F-86F Academy, just ready to paint.

Usually 3 or 4 at a time. I always run into a bottleneck in the paint department though. Gotta be a better way.

Yes, I have 5 (!) 1/48 F-18s going right now: 2 Monogram, 1 Hasegawa, 1 Testors, and 1 AMT. Building more than one model at a time isn't the trick- finishing more than one is!

I'm working on two models right now. A F4U-5N Corsair and an Apache helicopter. If I work on more than one I find I'm less likely to be waiting on paint to glue cure time.

I currently have 7 1/72 scale a/c on the bench, two 1/48 a/c, a car and the Polar Lights Godzilla kit (the BIG one!). Bubbamoosecat's right about the assembly line mode-all my ac will have similar finishes, so painting will be easier. Finding the time is my problem these days. Now, if someone would just come out with a 1/32 scale PT-17!!!!!. - Ed

Yepper, as of the moment, Im currently working on 7 Revell/Monogram F-14A and F-14D Tomcats. I did start working on the Academy and Fujimi F-14 Tomcats but only did the gluing parts together, thats it... Im saving both for the VERY LAST...... Yep Thanks to Tango1, Im armed to the teeth with the knowledge of making a huge diadorama of a Carrier surface with all F-14's in different squadrom schemes, 8 will be on the side waiting for its turn on the catapault while 1 will be either catapaulted or in middle of a launch...... Only if I could find REAL mini Sparrows, Sidewinders, and Phoenixs and put in turbo jets (The plastics would melt I know), I could send them all out to Afghanistan and hunt down Osama bin Laden and maybe Saddam (How many of you want to bet they are actually holding hands right now????) heheheh!

At any given time about 3-4. Thats not including refurbishing old models and recycling dead ones.

I usually keep 3 on the workbench and 1-2 in the "conceptual" stages - i.e. researching, deciding on paint scheme, looking for accessories or conversions and then ordering the accessories. I try to keep the 3 "in work" projects in different stages - ie one in the decal/final weathering stages, one in the painting/decal prep stage, another in the assembly stage. Occaisonally, when I'm doing a big conversion project an "OOB" build will "lap it", but then that's part of the reason I like OOB builds - keeps me sane :)

Well lets see, I've got that Trinity Lightship that ya'll know about. I'm working on a 48th Academy Hughes 500D helicopter, a HO metal 1959 Checker taxicab, a HO Jordans buckboard kit (which is driving me crazy). The glue doesn't do it for me anymore, now I'm sniffing lighter fluid.

Well at this time I have in my workbench 4 models, but in my very favorite time that longs an hour every day I'm just pic one step to another in the meantime of drying, sanding, imaging,looking for that missing piece or botle of paint...etc.But listen; it's IMPOSIBLE to set all my atention in the details of more than one model at the very same time....It's simple; years ago I decided to build two Ju-88, diferent in subject and brand but 1:72 both. and the time expending in the two was the same with every one, there were some time saving in the paintig process like the use of one color in both interiors or the camo pattern...but the square inches of gluing,filling ,sandig,painting,and detailing were one at a time!Thanks....

After reading this I 'll start building 2-3 models at a time. Let's see what happens!

For die hard model nuts like us, the question of working on more than one model is a no brainer. If lucky, I might complete the Tamiya F-4J in VMFA-334 livery this weekend, doubt it though since I found MK-5 MB seats for the correct period and is in the mail. Also nearing the painting stage for the Hasegawa 1/48th A-4C. Decals to go on the oposite side of a Monogram F-8E. Messing with fit problems again, on Monogram's F-4J. God I will go Hasegawa next time! (Cheap is not always better) Then there's the 1/35th Cobra's (two), Three SOL 1/9th female figures, one JJ Figure which won't go over well with the misses when that is done. Now, I'm itching to start a 1/72 series of Modern Marine aircraft. And I pre-ordered the 1/32 F-105D from Squadron and waiting for the 1/35 Hind to come out.

I think by not finishing a kit completely, is the secret to I looking younger than my 49 years. The models keeps that kid inside of me!

I always have had several models under construction at one time. I find that the ability to switch over keeps me fresh and reduces the chance that I'll rush a kit. I've been more satisfied with the quality of my work when I don't stick with one kit from start to finish. Having more than one kit under construction also makes you feel better about working on a kit type you normally might usually do if that's all you were to work on. Besides .... what are you to do while the glue and paint's drying?

Yes I do building more than one model at the time. At the moment one DC-6 scale 1/72, one B-777 scale 1/100, and one B-777-300 scale 1/144. So if there is no time for airbrushing, because I have to do that during the afternoon due to workspace in bedroom, than I like to go on with something new. This is bying out time which is necessary to accomplish something.

If you're not building more than one, you're not doing it right! I think I have about 10 in various stages of construction. Some would be done if I just put another hour into 'em. I've got the 1/16th r/c tiger about done, a 1/48th Hurricane, P-47, P-39, SBD and Skyray cluttering up the bench. A few 1/72nd scale kits and the various space and sci-fi thrown in for good measure. If I ever do get them done, I'll need my own table at the shows.

I too find I'm more of a collector. I just can't go into a shop and NOT buy a kit. I'm working on 3 1/144 Mig's right now, so my desk looks like an assembly line...which is kinda cool....

I have at least a dozen or more on the work bench at any one time. I get to a place where I need a break from sanding, I push it back and pull out one that needs painting. While waiting for the paint to dry, I pull out another one. I am lucky that my workbench is a 5' by 4' L shaped bar. There are 3 modeling stations at the bar with a back counter to hold some of the in work models.

Usually there are several going at once because I always have to wait for paint/glue/putty to dry, or I'm stuck with a problem, or I'm waiting for a special order of resin or brass, or I just plain get bored with sumthin' and need to do sumthin' different.
