So because of the Labor Day holliday I get three days off from work. NOT SO ! Says my wife, we have stuff to buy for the new house. Which means yet another trip to Tucson......Hmmmmm...... I wonder how much of a fit I'm going to have to throw at Home depo to get her to stop (or at least slow down ) at the hobby store?

( Picture a grown man throwing himself on the floor and screaming like a little girl.... I'll do it ..... I swear !)

I will let you all know what I get this time !

Do let us know your thoughts on the AT-ST.

Will do when i get to it. Nuc built one recently for the Star Wars GB, looks nice. Its certainly better than the AMT kit.

But as for the TIE, i have not yet compared to to one of the FM kits, but these don't look anything special from what i can see.

A few weeks back i discovered that Academy/Minicraft had once done a Ventura II which would nicley fill a gap in my Norfolk airfields, and it even came with markings for the right Sq. But the only ones i could find on e-bay were in the US and were up wards of £25 with postage, so i was going to wait until next year. But then last week one poopped up in the UK at a low starting price, so had to be done and i managed to snap it for less than 12.

Thats 29 out of 37. With a Typhoon and 2 Mossies lined up, i almost have every airfield covered.

I was glad to get that one.

As for the last 5, i have a set of B-24D decals on route from the US, so just need to get another hase kit. Another airfield i can get decals for Stirling Mk III, but the only kit of that is the old Airfix kit, so i am hoping they re tool it.

For Downham market i can get decals for an RAF Fort III, but i already have 3 Forts including one RAF one, and i will have to get a 4th for Deopham Green. The other options are a Lanc, Stirling or Mossie. But i am already going to have 4 Mossies, but which ever of those i opt for, i'll probably have to make my own markings.

The hardest 2 are Deopham Green and Fersfield. Deopham was only open a couple of years and only used by the B-17's of the 452nd BG, but i have not been able to find any decals for that group, so that might be a case of printing my own. Fersfield main use was for the B-17 drone bombs of Project Aphrodite. I would like to convert a B-17 for that. The other option is a Mossie from the atack on the Gestapo HQ in Denmark. Even thoguh they were not base at Fersfeild, they did fly from there for the attack.

I have been stuck on 27 for a couple of years now, so getting those 2 recent ones and being able pin down 3 other and get markings for a 4th i am really pleased with. So once i get those in the stash i can focus on those last 4.

Bish, you sure have your goals and options ready. That is a great idea for tribute builds.

The 452nd in pretty much an unknown  Group for WWII modeling purposes. They are more well portrayed in models for Korea where they flew B-26 Invades for the first half of the war. They were a Reserve unit mobilized and sent there in the beginning. They have some good web information covering their history. My dad served with them after his Army stint and after they returned from Korea. Later the converted to a tanker and transport unit, like the 100th Bomb Group. I jumped from some 452nd C-141s in my airborne days, and flew to Germany a few times on their KC-135s. So I have a little personal connection with them.

The Stirlings sound like a good option away from the Forts and Mossies. But only the old Airfix kit is out there in 1:72?

Well what do you know Stik. Ye, the 452nd is not well covered, the 91st from Bassingborn is probably the most well covered as far as modelling goes.

I knew about the 100th, they are still over here at Mildenhall. Nice to hear the 452nd is still going.

The B-24 is the subject i have most of, it will be 7. Norfolk was home to most of the B-24 bases, the 3 US B-17 bases were in the south of the county and just carried over the border from those in Suffolk. But i have been able to reduce the number of B-24's i needed by getting a couple of P-47 lead ships for B-24 groups. I wanted to get as much variety as possable, but that wasn't easy with so many of the bases only open for a couple of years and home to just one unit. Out of 29 bases covered so far i have 16 different aircraft types, which is more than what i thought i would get.

But ye, the old Airfix is the only Mk III out there. I have been looking at coverting one of the Italeri kits, but i can't find the info i need to dertermine which one and what would need doing. But that wil be somthing i will look into more deeply now.

LT, curse those wives who outsmart us!

Bish, now you have me curious about the Stirling. Here is Scalemates listing of available kits.

https://www.scalemates.com/search.php?fkSECTION[]=Kits&q=Short+Stirling&fkTYPENAME[]=%22Full%20kits%22&fkSCALE[]=%221:72%22

I got to fly on some 100th Group KC-135s during my time in the Balkans. They still wear their  WWII tail markings.

Yep, as you can see the only Mk III is the Airfix, which has not changed since 1966. The Airfield i need it for is North Creake, and it was only used by 2 Sqn's, 199 and 171 who both operated Stirlings III's and Halifax III's. So my options are limted for that one as well. Its either an old Stirling kit i can get markings for or a more recent Halifax that i will have to make my own.

My other option is to get a Stilring I for Downham market and a Halifax for North Creake, but again i will have to make my own decals for both. So thats what i wil be looking into.

I have seen the tail markings, they have it on the control tower at the base at Mildenhall as well. I have a B-17 for that group which was one of the 3 in Norfolk.

Edit: Couldn't resist doing some reaserch when i should be at the bench. I just found some decals for a Halifax Mk III from 171 Sq, so seems i have anotehr covered.

I just picked up the 1/35 Jagdpanther II by Amusing.  I'm a sucker for the jagdpanther.  I've been that way ever since the game Panzerblitz in 1970. I love the looks of the jagdpanther on the box.  Heck, in 1970, i didn't even know it existed.  Wasn't Avalon Hill wonderful. Looks good, not very complicted, it should be a fun build.

i just had my birthday and this is what i got. 2017-09-10_05-18-58 by Jerry Richards, on Flickr

the revell f-15 said 2017 on the box so i got exited over that. i opend it to find 1979 stamped on the plastic with raised panel lines. o well im sure it will build up nicley.the revell fw-190 is stamped eduard on the plastic. the academy looks nice being i have no modern jets both are nice to get. the hobby craft is a older kit from the looks of it but its the kit im most exited about. all the 109s in my stash are e and up so to get a 109b is really cool. pluss several bottles of model master paint. so there you have it. it was a very happy birthday for me.  have a good 1

Just noticed this thread today, and it got me to thinkin': How many kits have I bought this year already? So, I did  an inventory to update my Access database list (been awhile since I had done that, too), and, surprisingly, to me, it was a LOT more than I had realized:

Crap!! Twenty-two kits and detail kits! My feeble brain housing group thought it was more like about 7 or 8. Here they each are, in random order:

I think I'm done buying kits for a while.

Oh, and folks......don't mention any of this to my wife!!! Boo Hoo Propeller Toast

I recently inventoried my stash and put it on Scalemates... it was about 50% larger than my last inventory and estimate... I need to live a lot longer than before to get most of it built... and still not tell my Mrs about the latest count either...

You guys have some nice kits! Looks like we'll be seeing some really interesting builds this next year.  :D

I made a stop at Hobby Lobby (I know it's controversial, but it's the best game in town) and found the World of Tanks Chaffee on clearance for a price it's actually worth so I had to grab it.

I'm just reporting in as I got sidelined on this 1/1 thing and have been hanging out on the Hodaka Forum with W.I.P. I do check in the modeling forum daily to see what I'm missing and this is the only place I can do it. Scratch Building could also work as not much original left. The goal is to build a vintage road racer and/or land speed record 100cc class attempt that will double as a show bike. I'm getting to old to attempt these endevours but one must have some goals for a project.

Plenty in the stash for the Winter coming up. 1/48 NASA F-104, F-4C that has a place reserved in the Museum. There's also a slot in the museum for an Me-109 which is hiding under the bench. One more that's worrying me is a 1/72 FB-111A like my uncle used to fly. Hmm, too many projects including my house painting project that's finally coming along.

The vintage Hodaka road racer is in the seemingly perpetual prototype stage with concept wheels, engine, big brakes, clip on bars, rearset controls, gathering parts and on and on. Big fun with sand blasting, grinders and other power devices but taking a large work area. At least it's a small motorcycle.

That's my report if you missed me, LOL. Back to modelling soon if nothing else for the social aspect.

Max

Here it is as an acquisition awhile back.

Hey Max, I know how you feel. My 1/1 project is progressing since I found a good job. But I'm spending most of my time pulling over 100 hours in two weeks working with an hour and a half to two hours commute one way during the week.

Fortunately all the extra OT has made it possible to fix my dumb car and it's getting to the point where it's a reliable and now pleasant car to drive.

I just dropped around $700 in wheel and tire upgrades in preparation for the weather. But I now have 13in. Konig race rims sitting on 165/65 R13's and the ride is much improved over the stock 12's.

my car will never be a racer or a show car, but I'm getting pretty happy with it after all the money that has been spent on all the rebuilds.

Blackdog: Beleted Happy Birthday and nice stuff there.

DD: Great selection, that Hasegawa Ryusei is a great kit, I need to finally get around to building mine. And love that ROKAF T-50B Black Eagle scheme. I've looked at it a few times but never got around to picking one up.
