I can sympathize Stik. The cats are banned from my workshop after I caught one walking around on the shelves. Luckily she didn't break anything. However I have experienced what I call "The Great Crash" when my wife bumped the shelves and I watched in horror as EVERY model I had built went tumbling down, down, down...some never to be seen again except as cannibalized parts.

Fermis, “four in the floor” is a great rule... the dogs are allowed the occasional two up...

CB, I was thinking about 15 to 20 miles SW of my home...

Bob, I’ve had some incidents with earthquakes, kids, windblown curtains and blinds... none quite to this level before. But in those cases I think I was able to repair nearly all damages that happened previously.

Oh geez! Maybe she was just trying to help you solve the "I'm out of room" problem- and give you a reason to go shopping.

On occasion, my cat likes to knock things off my son's lego table and bat them around the floor. When that piece gets lost she will go up on the tabel and bat off another one. Surprisingly, she seems to leave my model and reloading tables alone.

Once my son sorted a pile of marbles and left them on the floor. We have hardwood floors. The cat found them and started playing with them at 3 am. It sounded like a marble stampede.

I can't stand it any longer!   My cats drive me nuts!  and they are basically barn cats. they are out in the garage but they get into and onto everything and knock boxes off the garage shelves.   I'm so tired of blasted kitty prints all over everyone of my vehicles,  especially the spring time muddy kitty prints!  this year I got a car cover for my car for christmas one the the best most recent gifts I've gotten.    My wife doesn't care about the kitty prints but I do.  I guess she's tired of my ranting about the cats.

Ok there's my cat rant for the year!  One of the cats got cuaght in the van for a whole day cuz she was to curious,  stupid cat!

See ! Tempest Johnny !

There they are all nice and soft with sweet faces . The middle photo looks like my " Sam " She's a real pip ! She gets on my workbench and lies down in a model box full of old sprue .That's her Model . So Far she's touched Nothing else .

Now , that said , since my heart business she's been better behaved than ever . She will walk over and cover what is in my hand , as if to say  "OKAY , Enough Already " and lay on my hands til I put everything away and go in the living room and set a spell .

Now yes , cats are curious . No spot is sacred from their incursion . But remember like Jackson Galaxie says , You don't " Have "  a cat , They have you !

For the Dog lovers there's this . Labradors and other breeds have absolutely no idea what that swingy thing in back can damage . They don't feel anything with it til you step on it or run it Over ! My Chihuahua has done more damage than my cat ever has .How he gets on benches and counter tops is anyone's guess .

Yup, I'm a dog guy, we have 2.  And I agree that swingy thing in back can cause damage and those big giant paws that she steps on my feet with hurt! They never get high enough to get to the work bench.  But man don't put anything in the trash can that has been around food or I'll have a big mess!  We don't call her moose for nothing!  Still way better than any cat.   My cats are for rodent control only since we live out in the sticks.

My cats must just be lazy.  They are going on 11 years old.  The highest point they get to is the top of the couch, lol.  It is a wonder I haven't had any serious accidents around here with all the animals we have.  My daughter did play a game of throw the stuffed animal in my living room and broke a propeller blade off my 1/48 Herc, but it was easily fixed.

My zoo.

Gypsy and Sadie

My 6 yr old Husky Lucian.  Disregard the Chi in the backround, she was just visiting.

My 1 yr old dopey Golden Kraven.

He's nosed my models a few times but hasn't caused any damage.

Cat telling you to stick to armor.

She used Armor, Ships, and Figures for her attack...

Cats... can’t live with ‘em... can’t legally kill ‘em.

So I did the clean up today... My Accurate Minuatures Mustang took some of he most impact...

Surprisingly, the Spitfire In the background was undamaged... But both struts on the Mustang were broken midway down, and the tail wheel was mashed up inside the fuselage... that’s looking like a strip salvage and scrap.

My Sturmovik also had all of the landing gear broken off and looks to be in the same category.

My F-80 took a bad hit and aside the nose gear strut was broken in two spots. Another salvage strip and scrap...

my P-47 and F4U look to be fairly simple repairs. Each had a gear strut broken in a single spot that is easily drilled and pinned for repair. The F4U also needs a new prop shaft as that was snapped off as well at the crankcase...

So at least two of the five will be back on display eventually.

Yup, that is Gabby’s Jug. I built it in the mid 90’s with the Hi Tech release of the Monogram kit and decals from the Testors kit. One of my favorite older builds.

I’m so sorry of your loss.  It sucks as much as my models falling off my ceiling.  Remember that two years ago?  lol!  But you still gotta love the kitty!  lol!

Thanks Toshi. This thread has been a great way to vent and hear about everybody else’s similar experiences. And good for a few chuckles as well...

I still prefer me dogs though...

My two kitties don't bother my models at all.  I have dozens of them, mostly 1/35 on shelves in a couple of rooms.

There are lots of enemies of our models.  Cats, kids, dust, wind, and ourselves!  The B-25 Mitchell I built is cursed.  I dropped it trying to hang it up, not once but twice, lol.  Then on a nice summer day I decided to open the front door, and a nice breeze came in and knocked it right off the wall!  I've managed to repair it all 3 times.  Some tips of the gun barrels are missing, but other than that it's okay.  I'm the one who causes the most damage to my models, usually when I dust them.

Ah, this thread is dear to my heart.

I had two sailing ship models, one of the CSS Alabama, and one of the HMS Surprise, that took full broadsides from a frisky tabby.  Both ships dismasted.  The Alabama is waiting to be re-masted and rigged, the Surpise had to be scuttled.

My Calico will sneak into my basement, and somehow senses my frustration over lack of display space, and will help out by weeding out those models she deems unworthy of precious shelf space, what models she thinks need details re-worked.

I had a modeling buddy in a club I belonged to, he had a saying that there are builders and there are displayers.  Those who love to build, love cats, hence, have a never ending reason to build, and those who love to display, have dogs.

Then again, I had a model of a ship of the line get damaged and the case it was in destroyed when my Labrador snuck a baseball into the house and gave it a toss.  He also took out a window with the same ball.

And don't get me started about what a big bushy tail from an excited Labrador can do.

Cheers,

Scott

A few year's ago, while I was working on Lindberg's " Black Beard's Pirate Ship ( which it's not )  Victor snuck in and managed to eat some rigging thread I had "dangling" from a mast. I discovered the broken mast but didnt notice the rigging line was missing ......

Until the next day...... when I had to help him with it....... DONT ASK !!!!!!!!
