That would be cool, especially in 1/72 scale.  So now I’m wondering since the 1/35 scale armor kits are most likely Academy molds, maybe the F-16, F-15, and F-18 are re-popped Academy kits?

 

Unforetunatly not, old Airfix kits. The view on the Airfix forum is mixed. Some welcome these old kits, though given many are on the second hand market i am not sure how well they sell, and building the SM.79 reminds me why i haven't built Airfix is years. Other are disapointed.

I really do think they have missed some oppotunaties. Given how people on here have been interested in the RN Phantom, i can just imagine how well a new US version would have gone down over there.

I just hope the lack of new kits this years means they are reashercing a lot of stuff for nextyear.

Thinking out loud here, but since kit makers are always looking for that innovative edge (Mach-2 excluded), how about canopies with tampo printed MDC (micro detonation cord)?  The process is used in a lot of industries, including toys, and they can get really fine definition and high density coverage even with white ink.  The current solutions (decals, PE, hand painting(!!!) and even die cut vinyl) all have drawbacks.

Wouldn’t the Bucc look fabulous with a printed MDC inside the canopy?  And it would be an industry first for kits.  Is someone from Airfix reading this?

BTW I got to have a close look at a real MDC when I was at the RAF Museum in Hendon, and was surprised to see it is just a (explosive) cord glued to the inside of the canopy.  I was always under the impression that they were somehow laminated within the canopy.  OK yeah, just how would they do that shows I was not thinking.

But if a kit maker does it, you heard it here first!

Well, its been released and i have to say i am slightly underwhelmed. Not many new toolings, though i am glad to see the Bucceneer. There is another Phantom but its an RAF boxing of the FG.1. I thought they would have gone with a US version. But mostly reboxings and a lot of them look to be the older kits.

There is some 1/35th armour. It doesn't state that its new tool so they must be re-boxings of someone elses kits.

That was my first thought. I am not familiar with Academy's armour range so don't know if they have done all those subjects. But i am sure tamiya has not and at that price they are not Dragon.

A 1/72 Bucc should please some, even at £24+.  Over at Britmodeller, there’s some inexplicable whining.  A new plastic Bucc is good news!  RN version first, which is good as this mark is not well represented.  I assume RAF versions in 2020?

Maybe I should make the switch to 1/72.  I still have that awful 1/48 double kit boxing.

 

I will deffinetly be getting the Bucc, i have been holding off the Revell kit in the hopes Airfix will do one. I will also get the Phantom as i was planning on getting another of the current FG.1 and some AM decals. So that will save me a few quid. But that will be it for me.

No point whinning about it to mjuych, is what it is, but i am dissapointed, plenty of scope for new subjects. O well, always next year.

Definitely looks like they are focusing a lot of attention on the vintage Classics line. However, that 1/48 Tiger moth looks like it might be a new tool kit.  Looking forward to the bucc too. All in all, I would like to see more new tool kits and fewer vintage re-pops but I’m glad to see they are somewhat thriving now.
