WNW closed for good

I just read  Wingnut Wings folded. Quite a bummer cuz they put out some super detailed models. Their kits were on the expensive side so I think that may be a factor for the closing?Hopefully bathe molds will be picked up by another company and continue to produce WWI subjects.

A. Old news. Been out there for several months.
B. Wingnut was a privately held company. There are lots of rumors, but because of that fact, we may never know the true reason for their closure. Unless Peter Jackson decides to talk. 'Their prices were too high' is pointless speculaction.

C. Their Fokker Dr.1 that was being outsourced is going to be released by the subcontractor Meng in a few months, likely. Not widely known before, but Wingnut outsourced its kit molding, and Meng was one of likely several companies that did projects for them.

Less speculative to say that in the case of the upcoming Dr.1, Wingnut likely never paid, or paid in full Meng, who are now releasing the kit. They may have been just able to seize the molds as compensation for non payment for their work in making them. And of course, Meng is fully capable of making the kit and releasing it on their own.

The other existing molds are in an uncertain state right now. Who did the work, who is holding them, and their legal status is unknown. But we do now know that Wingnut did contract out the work, and likely has limited, if any, physical control over the molds themselves. Kind of like Accurate Miniatures when they flopped; the molds stayed with their Korean owners. Wingnut did the research and design, and someone else cut the molds and did the production.

On my wishlist, the Hansa Brandenburg W.29.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
