Christmas Challenge - Pandemic Special
Posted by snapdragonxxx on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 8:38 AM

As Christmas - in whatever form it finally takes - gets closer I have decided to change the challenge rules for this time to encompass dates etc. I hope that members will decide to join in and add to the fun.

For the 2020-2021 challenge this is what will happen

Timescale:

On the 19th December Members should post the subject and box(s) contents With a link in this thread.

Starting on the 20th December 2020 the build starts and will continue until the 21st January 2021.

Conditions:

Any kit

Any subject

Any scale

Any Aftermarket

Log your build on the forum in the relevant section.

If you decide that you can do more than one then please do so, but you should finish one build BEFORE starting another.

A photo of the finished kit to be posted on this thread. Just one build finished within the timescale qualifies as challenge completed and I hope that Sargeant will very kindly provide a suitable badge for the completed build.

If you wish to take part, post here please.

(this is a fun challenge and you should talk to SWMBO first as any relationship issues during this time is not our fault, but your own! :-))

A yummy Christmas Cinnamon Roll and hot Spiced Cider will make this year's Christmas Challenge a special treat. Have fun and enjoy the Holidays.

Instead of 12 days you get...

20 December until 21 January (20-21)

and you open your post on the 19December (Covid-19) with what you are going to build along with the box contents etc.

Normally for the Christmas Challenge you would get 12 days (of Christmas). As we have had a very different year with the virus, America destroying itself, China putting an unwanted boot into Hong Kong with a large fist amongst other things then I think that some extended Crimble fun is warranted.

If you can't figure out the numbers then you need to start drinking more!!! Stick out tongue

What do you mean by America destroying itself,I don't understand? Explain please.

Starting the pandemic special group build on 12/19 to correspond to COVID19 That sounds like fun

I think I'll pass on this one.

It is NOT a group build as there is NO particular subject it is open to all scales AND subjects.

It is a challenge which normally only is for the 12 days of Christmas and the aim is to choose a model and finish it in 12 days. You can still do this if you wish to.

For this year only I have chosen, as it has been such a different and difficult year for most of the world, to just move the goalposts a little.

Without getting into politics, I am referring to all the riots and civil unrest in America and also the farce of a presidential election which quite frankly was an embarrasment.

So, Tojo72, If you wish to join in but stick to the original rules of 12 days starting December 26th (25th is for family) feel free to do so. If you have noticed the badge his no reference to viruses etc.

That goes for everyone. If you wish to stick to the 12 days you can do. as the "official" length is 33 days then if those doing it stick to the 12 days then two builds are possible. A chance, maybe to get those small and quick builds out of the stash and make room for some more.

No,I have zero interest in taking part in this whatever your rules are.

You are the the one who bought in politics with your first observation and again with your last post. You make it sound as if the country is on the verge of destruction and the whole country is in flames, for being so bad here, there are an awful lot of people trying to get in to the country one way or another.

I'm out,before I hear from a moderator

As someone from the far west side of the pond, we will overcome the covid problem and other issues, just like people all over the world, and move on.

Been doing it since mankind has been around.

I am also from the great Pacific Northwest and 100% agree, we will get through these difficult times and be stronger than ever. We are survivors no matter what the challenge - viral, political, economic or war we will get through this and move on. That is just who we are!

Welcome on board. You've got time to prepare and decide if you are going to do a 12 day build on which the normal challenge runs or do the longer run. Either way, Have fun.

Sounds like fun, I could use the extra days, for it seems eveything I tried to do this year went into slow motion and can't get finished.  I promised to finish the remodeling of our home office over Christmas.  I started it an April.Embarrassed

I’ll join up and do the longer challenge. I’ve already decided on a Tamiya 1/35 Stug III Ausf.B.

I'm in the 30 day Challenge too with an artillery piece, but I haven't decided which one yet. Either British or American World War II vintage, I'm still looking.

Maybe we should ask the mods to move this to the Group Build forum?

SD I was going to do the 12 day with an old Hase 1/72 M3 Lee. I night see if I can throw in another for the other challange but we'll see what Santa brings first.

Hi there Modelcrazy

You can do the 12 days or go for the longer one of both. Anything goes this Christmas.

Could be a good way of getting all those "small quick builds" out of the stash and make some room!
