I had heard that it was taken in sections by C-5 to Wright Pat but never was put back together and is either in some out of sight area waiting its turn or went to Davis Monthan for storage. I'm just not sure what happened.
Ikor do you by chance know what happened to the plane when it got to Wright pat.?
I recently bought the Atlantis kit with intent of converting it into the XB-36, the one with the huge single wheel main gear.

GMorrison The Monogram kit is an RB-36. As I recall, the length of the bay doors may be a little different from the B-36. I'll check my references Bill

For those who didn't know, there is a variation of the B-36 called the XC-99. It used to be alongside the road between Kelley and Lackland A.F.B.s and you could go through it for about 50 cents. Years after I took these shots it was taken to Wright Pat.
You could access the interior of the wings for engine maintenance from the upper cargo area.
I watched the movie today. Not bad, it holds up-mostly.
Very good flying, as the youtube video shows. The modelwork is not bad either.
The story is a bit contrived but the acting good for the time.

I've got a Mk 17 that I'm going to be putting into mine when I build it. That might have to be my next project after I finish the Phantom. This thread about the B-36 has me all jazzed about that one again. The 1/72 Monogram B-36 has been in my stash for a year or two since I found one on Ebay.

Yup. There was a tunnel between the two ends that had a trolley the crew member would lie down on and pull themselves through using the rope that ran along the top. The TO-1 strangely refers to it as the "Communication Tube" and it goes straight from the front cabin to the aft cabin. The aft cabin has toilet facilities and bunks, along with a tail gunner's position, lower left/lower right scanner positions, and low freq and high freq ECM stations. Nothing in the wing root area though...just a huge bomb bay for carrying a huge bomb. The tunnel runs along the lower left side of the bomb bay.

I always thought that that aircraft had the straingest looking canopy. Plus, look how thick those wings are.

Hi Lurch, the movie is called " Stratigic Air Command" and Jimmy Stewart is lead actor...after the B-36 of course.
What movie was that? Looks like something that would interest me.
Just before I went into the Air Force my Father took me to Wright Pat. to see the museum. They had a lot of aircraft sitting outside back then. They put a maint scaffold alongside the B-36 so you could go up and look into the flight deck.
I knew someone at Little Rock who flew on those things and he said the normal flight was from Texas to Alaska to Maine and then home, none stop. There was no refueling with that monster. He also said that once in a while they would hit Alaska and turn left into Russia to look around and test their response time.
That movie is worth watching if you haven't seen it yet.

Way before I was born I think there was a wing of B-36s stationed at Larson AFB in Moses Lake Wa. Some would come over to Fairchild and bounce. A hi school class mates father worked on them.
Liked the movie and boy those birds were HUGE.
