Where to find the right paints ?

I'd suggest Humbrol #64 for the sides (vertical surfaces)  If you want to use it for the deck too, as suggested above, then go for it.  If you want to show a variety of colors (colours) you may use Humbrol #27 gray.

Humbrol paint separates while in storage on the dealer's shelf, so please stir it very, very well before beginning to use the brush.  I stir, so that I can check the proress of the stirring.  I keep stirring a new tin for at least five minutes.  Some folks swear by shaking the paint tin.  I use a small screwdriver to stir, and then wipe it completely clean after use.

As said above, don't worry too much about the names of the colors (colours).  I'd say "get it in the ballpark", but I don't know how that translates to the King's English.  :-)

If you're in the UK, Humbrol enamel or acrylic is your most likely candidate. The color names may not match those of the kit, but you're certain to find matches from Humbrol's extensive range.

I would worry about anything from the company Kitech. They used to (or maybe still do) use Tamiya and Academy built model photos on the boxart or their motorized toys that they sold.

You think you're getting a fairly detailed model kit until you open the box and find a battery operated motorized toy kit that barely resembles the boxart.

If you have a Hobby Lobby nearby, they sell paint sets for the beginner, usually in sets geared towards car builders, armor builders, airplane or ship builders with different colors in each set.

If not, there are plenty of online retailers that sell the same or similar products.

This was a good Jeff Head build post. He used Testors; light ghost gray for the verticals and dark ghost gray for the deck. If you can find it.

I am from the UK and would plan on making it just by hand brush.

Some of the paints have weird names like gold copper, What do I do if I cant find exactly gold copper do I just go with copper ? sorry for all the questions.

Kitech/Zengdenfu manufacturers of your 1:600 scale kit are a Mainland Chinese company, so English is not their primary language.  Translations of some model colors often come across strange.   Gold Copper is likely brass. 

That being said, don't get wrapped around the axle on paint accuracy. Especially not your first kit - perhaps not your hundred and first kit either. 

What you need is a mid-tone neutral gray for the hull & island, a brick red for the bottom, some black & white to adjust the tones somewhat.   I'm not familiar with French Navy deck color, but I looked at the instructions for the Heller 400 scale kit & they painted the same as the hull.  

My suggestion would be to google Heller DeGaulle instructions to see what they recommend. Heller recommends Humbrol colors, and since you are in the UK finding them should be easy.  Stir your Humbrol colors well and thin with their thinner. They hand brush well

Vallejo Model Color line and Mission Models hand brush very well,you just need to be close with your colors,find close matches.

All about the same price,but once you got them you got them for next model,gotta start somewhere.

Next, it would help if you would tell us what country you are in, as paints are sold by different companies in different parts of the world.

And, before long you may want to ask about brands of paint to use.  When you do, please mention whether you intend to paint with hand brush or air brush.  The best for one method may not be great for the other.  And many of our friends here in this forum will give the answer best suited to their method.

One way or another, welcome to a great hobby, and plan on every day being an experience to learn something new.

Do you know of which brand is the most affordable ?

Just trying to get into model making but paint when you are needing 20 colours can be a lot

 

All about the same price,but once you got them you got them for next model,gotta start somewhere.

You can use any brand paint if you can match the colors.

It's a plastic model,so it doesn't need anything special
