Welcome back to the hobby, and always happy to welcome to another 1/48 armor builder.

Thanks Rob.  In fact I am starting off with the Tamiya 1/48 Sherman "Easy Eight".

My advice is to keep it simple Keith. Grab the old Tamiya M41 Walker Bulldog or the equivalent for whatever your genre of choice is.

Single paint color scheme, and just build. Don't try to keep learning all the new techiques and buzz words. Have fun and just start gluing.

Thanks John.    The low parts thing I like to get back in to the swing of things.

I'm building the 1972/73 boxing of the 1/48 Tamiya Rufe - low parts count, great kit...nice break from the modern stuff and still just as enjoyable.  Lot's of good stuff out there thats been around a while.

Thanks,

John

Hang in there and ask whatever questions you have. There's no such thing as a dumb question. The members here build ausome models. They have a lot of knowledge gathered over lots of years of building models and are ready to help out with any questions/problems. I've been building for 76 of my 82 years and started really learning when I joined here and haven't stopped learning. Listen to what they have to say, pick one and give it a try. Main objective is to enjoy the hobby.

Stay Safe.

I felt the same way when I started up again, just start slow with what you know, what your used to,then gradually introduce new techniques and new products as you go along. No sense trying to do it all at once. You may find that even if something is new it's not needed or doesn't work for you.

Tony gave some excellent advice there. Just because something is out there, it doesn't mean that you have to use it. Build for what makes you happy. Instead of an afternoon, have your project build take a weekend, and enjoy every moment. Don't get sucked in by the latest fad. The old school methods can still look pretty good on their own. Newer is not always better.

After having been out of modeling since 1972 I knew there would be progress and advancements in the plastic model industry.  It's like everything else.  But I had no idea what is offered these days.  Thinners (many), decal setting solutions (numerous). . paints ( a bajillion) . . . pigments (had none of that in 72). . .washes. . chipping paints (and brushes,  sponges etc etc) . . .I could go on and on.  I know it will take a while to injest all this modeling knowledge.  If I ask a stupid question please understand.  Back in the day I'd toss a kit together in an hour. . maybe less.  Those days for me are gone.  I think now it's not the result but the road getting there is what makes the hobby fun. . .for me at least.
