You do have a point! Maybe I should buy a dozen of so of the sailing ships that takes at least one year to build each one, in this way, I may live to be 150. LOL.

I have probably over 200 kits now that have accumulated over the last 40 years. Not as extensive as some your collections, but still a lot for me. They range from WWI to the present aircraft in both 1/72 scale and 144th scale with a few 1/48th thrown in, some armor in both 1/72 scale and a few 1/35th scale, autos - mostly "classics" ranging from 50's to late 70's, spacecraft that includes some Startek offerings and a Saturn V. Included in this count are a shelg that holds nothing but weapons sets. Most Hasegawa kits did not include weapons with their offerings. Surprisingly, no ships or boats.

My biggest problem seems to be finishing anything. I work a second job, with many hours spent at my primary job. Then there all of the other distractions - housework, yardwork, gaming on both the computer and a tablet. Car repairs, house repairs, and then there is a need for sleep. A few more kits have joined me this month and with only an hour or two work on them...

*******

On my workbench now:

It's all about classic cars now!

Why can't I find the "Any" key on my keyboard?

John 3M, I've always said that I have enough models to keep me building for at least the next 200 years at my present rate of building. If the man upstairs doesn't want me to stay here for that long then He's just going to have to let me take what's left up (or down) to the great workbench in the sky so I can finish them there. The only problem with "down" is that heat and plastic don't get along so well.Wink

Stay safe.

Yes you are the only one...to have only those few kits.Big Smile

I have 205 built and in display cases, a few are from the 60's but most are from the mid 90's or later.  That represents about 7% of the stash, but that is a result of collecting for around 60 years, most since the mid 90's.  My grandson is going to have a good inheritance.

Some of you guys have a bigger selection than my local hobby shop! wow!

I only work on a model at the time, being a very hyper individual and also a perfectionist, I can not have a pending model waiting in the winds while working on another. The reason being that I hate to have something pending, so I tend to hurry up and complete the one being work on so I can start the new one.

This rush robes be of the satisfaction of enjoying the build of the model.

Have fun!

A-ha-ha.

Oh-ho-ho.

A-hee-hee.

Um, I don't think you have a "problem".

Don't get down on yourself for having a few models. Why so serious?  Go back to the hobby shop, and put a smile on that face!

My name is Ross, and I'm a styrene addict.

I have 405, of which 4 are completed, and two are in progress. I've given away, donated, or sold about a hundred more, mostly because I upgraded to a more recent kit. I've also cleared out some older kits, portions of which are "paint hulks." To date, I have only done "aerial kitbashes" of two that were so bad out of the box they weren't worth completing, or even using as paint hulks.

ThanosForever

Up until 2017 I had a collection of just over 500 kits. I had to sell them in bulk that year due to an ongoing financial & personal crisis that took a very long time to stabilize. I have to say that selling off the stash was one of the worst days of my life. I was under no illusion that I'd ever build them all. But just having that collection in my possession was something really special to me and it hurt bad having to sell it. Here's a general idea of how it looked back in the old house. Keep in mind too that there were also quite a few more kits added to the pile AFTER these pictures were taken Embarrassed....

There was lots of good stuff. Mostly ranging from early 1990's vintage through to the mid 2010's. I rarely had shelf queens, or put together a few parts & then got bored and put the kit away. I didn't do kit-bashing either; the most I ever did was (for example) steal a headlight guard from a Tamiya kit if I broke the one on the Dragon Sherman I was building at the moment. The only other "odd" thing I did was almost always take the parts out of the internal bags because I was worried the bag plastic would shrink over the years and distort or twist the parts up. Apparently this "reduced the resale value" according to some. But I didn't care about any alleged "collectors rules". Those kits were my babies and I didn't buy them just to put the box on a shelf and forget about them

My current, but much more logically-sized stash is less than a dozen kits. Inflation, even the regular general yearly inflation that happened in the economy before COVID, simply prevents me from ever building up a collection that size ever again. It's just too cost-prohibitive and can't ever be repeated, barring a magical lottery win happening someday. And that's definitely the best way to approach this hobby IMO. I'm more than willing to admit my buying when things were much better in my life got way out of control. The way I did it wasn't even obsessive, it was just stupidly habitual. Having nothing out of it by the time it gets all said & done isn't something I want to ever repeat.

PS - make an accurate list of your collection with each time you buy a new one! I didn't and making a list from memory takes a long time, like I did a couple of years ago, even moreso when dealing with those absolutely awful websites companies like Dragon have where they have barely a fraction of the products they've issued over the years properly listed. Thank Jaysus for the service provided by Scalemates though when looking up a kit you may have had once upon a time!

Great attitude and great approach, that's the way I feel about it,although I have slightly more kits then I need,I still feel good about my stash.I will never amass a huge amount of kits like many have.

Yup, your the ONLY ONE!

Not really.....as you can see from the responses. For me, I have far more than I will ever be able to complete in this life time. It's OK, I believe this is normal for many modelers.

If any of you feel you need help by reducing your "stash stress", I would be happy to accept your donations to ease your burden (smile). After all, a healthy modeler never has too large of stash, do they?

does anyone else have this problem? do you have 1 or 2 models you have not started yet on the shelf?Geeked I guess i have more than that. every since returning to modeling My friends and wife have added to my collection...

Maybe with 'only' 1-2 unstarted kits!!  Big Smile  I have what would be a decent hobby shop in our dining room.  I'm actually afraid to count!!  I stocked up when working, expecting to have 'spare' time when retired.  Now that I'm retired, I have too many other projects going on.  I really hope to do many, if not most before I'm done here.

Ahem!

I have enough that I have instructed that when I cross-over( or under) that last bridge they are to be donated to the San Antonio V.A.(Audie Murphy) Recreational Therapy dept .They won't have to buy models for at least three years!

I have never counted the number of kits I have in the closet but it looked like a lot. Last week, I sold at least half of the kits that were in the closet. The pressure just was too much, opening the closet and seeing all of those kits. What to build?

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

I have close to 100 (or more).  Luckily, they all fit in a closet.  Some I've had waiting for "restoration" since I was 12 years old (I'm 68).  And I've given away or sold about 50.  Wish I built more than I bought.  Oh, well!

Modeling is like raising rabbits....get 2 and they magically multiply.

I have around 250, to many started to some extent to count. I plan on building eachband every one however simply having " that kit" in my stash makes me happy.

No kidding, conservatively, I have nearly a thousand, maybe even more model kits. Probably 100 or more are started.
