If you have his service number you can request his records from the Navy. Ooops that was misleading- you can request records with a name but the service # will speed things up. If you don't know his service # it will be on his form DD214 (discharge), they will probably be quite co-operative because he is your father.

This is what is great about these boards. Knowledgable people willing to help out. I just found a good boo detailing this battle. Apparantly, it was in 1944 and was considered a response to Pearl Harbor. Japanese ships attacked by a convoy consisting of 9 carriers. The air assault resulted in a number of sunken Japanese ships and downed planes.

I lost my father in 1954 and am trying to find out about what he did. This is perfect. We have no records. This is a start.

Thanks again!

I did some research for A friend who's father was lost over Yugoslavia. It will be hard pinpointing the ship without a name or hull number. I'll do some hunting and come back.

Anyone have any sites to look for info on this battle in the South Pacific? My father was a radioman on a destroyer and I am trying to research the subject, maybe even figure which destroyer he was on. Any one ever do anything like this?

Thanks, I would eventually like to build the ship he was on if it is available. Also, would like to learn about the battle.
