                        In order to post them legally, you would have to get the permission of the model manufacturer to copy and distribute the instructions. Every company is different, so it would have to be handled on a case-by-case basis. Most companies, however, have no problem with it, as long as no money is to be made from it, and that a claim is made on the site stating the origional publisher of the instructions. Again, contact the manufacturer for complete legal details.

                        Is it legal to make a copy of them for someone else...not posting them on a website? Maybe there would be a way to have a list of what is available so that nobody gets into trouble. Just a thought.

                        Look on the bottom of the instruction sheet. If it has the wording "Copyright" and the date, plus "All rights reserved", then no, you can not post them without their permission. They can claim potential loss of income, and several manufacturers have filed suit over someone posting their products or instructions on the web.

                        That sounds like a really good idea, if it is legal to offer them up for free. I was sent a set of scanned instructions by a member here and would be willing to scan and post a copy of the ones that I have on hand.

                        Does anyone else do this? I have noticed that people ask for copies of kit instructions on a fairly regular basis and as a result I have started scanning the instructions for the kits I do (and the older ones I had).
                        What I want to know is if it would be a violation of copyright law to post these for free download. There is no intent to make money and they would be offered freely as a service to those that need them. They would be useful to those that bought a kit that was missing them, lost them, spilled paint on them or have 3 year old children Tongue [:P] but also to compare kits and get sort of a preview of various kits and/or manufacturers. ronUSMC's referance section would be a good place for these provided there would be no lawyers knocking on his door and pending his approval.
