How come I'm not surprised to see this thread? LOL!! Smile [:)]

I'll have to add a couple - non-WWII movies of course. Wink [;)]

We Were Soldiers - awesome movie. I guess what makes this movie awesome is the story, the actual events. Regardless of one's views on America's involvement in Vietnam, you really have to respect and admire those soldiers for what they went through those couple of days.

Platoon
K19 - Widowmaker
Thirteen Days

The last two are arguably not technically war movies, but one had a submarine and the other dealt with missiles. Good enough for me. Wink [;)]

Then there was the A&E show - Horatio Hornblower. There was something about it - I absolutely loved this show.

My favourite wartime movies are :
"a bridge too far" "the longest day" and "the great escape"
I know nearly everyone has seen them on tv every christmas - but I still enjoy them every time !
Later,
Darren.

It's not exactly a war move (well, it IS Cold War) but I think
"The Hunt for Red October" should be in there. Great flick.

Last year there was an excellent 10 piece drama on called Band of brothers. If you have not seen it yet go and hire it out.
One of my favourite books would be WAR OF THE RATS.Its based on true events that happened between a German and a russian sniper.

Last year I read "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" by William Shirer. A very gripping account of Hitler's rise. I also managed to get through Richard Rhodes' "The Making of the Atomic Bomb" - very apropos in light of current events.
