I have a six sided fish tank about a 3ft across with 6 indivdiual tanks (no fish). My plan is to make 6 separate dioromas but when in the tank they make one big one.

It's going to be WWII and the first one will a maintance dio and another will have supply trucks rolling, maybe some combat on the other side of the tank. A lot of it is still in the planning stage.

My big problem is that the opening at the top of tank is a little smaller than the bottom and I was planning on building each dio out of the tank on a base and than placing it in the tank.

As of this last Saturday, I'm up to 125 a/c of the 56th FG. I still have to get a Heinkel 111 and an Airspeed Oxford. Gettin bigget and better, and I still have everything in the house without a major construction project. :)

My dream project is a hurricane damage diorama featuring a C-46 Curtiss Commando blown upside down on top of a building. It happened in 1979 and when it comes time to build this project (still some years away; after I move to Arizona, whenever that will be), hopefully I can find some color pictures of the scene in question. So far, I've only seen one black-and-white picture in a book about hurricanes, but the first time I saw that picture, I said, "That just cries to be made into a diorama!" I've already got the kit of the plane waiting in the wings, so to speak.

I havent been building long enough to have a "big project" yet. I think my current project is an undertaking in and of it self as a new modeler. My girlfriend and I had the oportunity to see the Blue Angels in Willow Grove Pa on Sept 9, 2001. She had transfered there from Charlotte NC for a temp position. I went up to visit and we had a good time at the air show. My vacation was over and I flew home on Sept 11 2001. I was in the air when the tragedy occured. We decided that making a diorama of the Angels was a nice tribute to that weekened, so I am planning on a F-18 and a C1-30 done up as Fat Albert. My current kit is 1/48. Now my main issues is where to put that C-130. Its huge

I have two that I've been pursuing for a number of years. First, I'm currently building the 56th FG in scale, both 1/72 and 1/48. At last count, I had 93 completed aircraft with a number left to build. I have all the serial #'s and squadron codes. I'm lacking some information on some aircraft paint schemes and personal insigna/paint jobs.
Secondly, I am attempting to build an example of every aircraft that the Eighth Air Force operated in WWII, including squadron hack a/c, recon birds, troop transports and cargo haulers, etc. So far, got about 31 a/c, althought I admit some crossover from the first project. My big obstacle is room-where in the heck will I put it all? I can arrange to have the kids sent to military school and my wife on that round-the-world-trip, renovate the whole house, and open my own museum! Naaahhhhhh. The kids would want their rooms back, Carol would ask how much I spent,and I still wouldn't have enough time to finish either project!!!!! :)

My project is to build Vietnam Mig killers in 1/32 scale. I have F-4D, 66-8711, with three kills, F-4E, 69-260, with two kills (I was crew chief on both when they got their kills), and F-4J "Showtime 100". Also included with the display will be two MIG 21's (one MIG-21MFand one MIG-21PF) and a MIG-17Fof the NVAF. And, yes I do have the space to display it.

Just picked up the Hasegawa 1/48 F-14A "Wolf Pack" with the Verlinden cockpit and Super Detail Kit off evil-bay. Now, I just need to get the "Anytime Babe" VIII decal set for the Pukin' Dogs. I'll be sure to keep the updates on the build.

If you get a chance to pick one up, the Has is a great kit!

Right now my present project is to build one of each ship I served on (in 1/350). The 2 Spru-cans are under construction. However, my first 2 (USS Guadalcanal LPH-7 & USS Suribachi AE-21) are not available in any scale or in resin. So it's looking like I have to get some plans and do some scratchbuilding.

Well now that you mention it I would like to build a Moskalev SAM-13. I have several pictures and good 1/72 3-view drawings. Now all I need is some styrene and a bunch of free time. Hey if any of you have pictures of this neat little twin engine light fighter, I really would like a copy.

I saw a great (posed) pic of an airborne ranger inspecting a Panther (knocked out by a Typhoon) with his Thompson at the ready.. Something based on this scene..

Also a dio of a vietnam medivac huey just after it landed and everyone has left the helo.

For the brass ring, why doesn't somebody do an F-14 for every squadron? Shouldn't be too hard, except maybe a little cost prohibitive if done in 1/32.

I was actually thinking about doing every squadron in my last deployment airwing in 1/48. The tough part would be finding a good kit of the E-2C and S-3's.

DJ: how bout building EVERY SINGLE seahawk EVER BUILT... youd end up with about a lot...

as for me, im finishing up a me 262 1/32 hasegawa superdetailed, a 1/32 hasegawa zero superdetailed, a 1/32 trumpeter mig 15 and 19 superdetailed, and a 1/72 dragon ta 152 superdetailed...

NO REALLY ALL OF THEM ARE SUPERDETAILED

Gregers, check out Paragon's catalog for the Lanc B2 conversion, I know someone made a B2 conversion kit within the last 5 years, both in 1/72 and 1/48. I saw it noted in both FSM and a British modeling magazine. For some reason Paragon comes to mind when I think about that conversion kit. If you're interested in Canadian Lancs, you may want to do a 408 Squadron B2 if you find the conversion kit, 408 was the only RCAF unit to use the B2 Lanc.

Arrow Graphics has a wide variety of WWII and post war Canadian Lancaster decals in both 1/72 and 1/48 to choose from.

If I got my hands on the Tamiya 1/48 Lancaster, my first inclination would be to look into the possibility of converting it to Shackleton AEW.2. Lots of work there I'm sure if its at all possible. I've always wanted a 1/48 Shackleton.

On the matter of that refueling combo, I saw someone pair up an AMT 1/72 KC-135 with a Testors 1/72 B-2. They built the B-2 around a metal coat hanger so the support would stretch out into its wings and distribute the weight better and re-enforced the root of the KC-135's boom somehow. The combo didn't fare too well and both models suffered from stress and weight and eventually were broken. It was quite a sight while it lasted though. :-)

Hi DJ as some have read on another thread i have got five lancaster kits to build they are
1 Dam buster (Gibsons a/c)
2 S Sugar (RAF Museums a/c)
3 City of Lincoln (Battle of Britain memorial flight a/c)
4 Grand Slam (617 sqn a/c)
5 Lanc B2 (Dont know what sqn yet and i can't find a conversion kit for it yet)
if i dont find a conv kit for the B2 i may do either a Canadian ASR aircraft or convert it to a manchester or york or lifeboat dropper or engine testbed or ???????? oh smeg too much reference too few kits not enough time ( sound familiar? )... Greg
p.s if i don't get a conv kit for a B2 my Halifax may have to die... Sad [:(]

Hey Domi,

Look at you with over 1000 posts!! Wow, I think you're addicted!!

I heard an idea a while back (can't remember where, but it definitely wasn't my idea) of building and inflight refueling tanker refilling a stealth fighter (or some other aircraft). The idea was to build it so there would be visible supports for the aircraft being refueled. There would be some sort of 'wire' holding up the second aircraft through the refueling hose.

Always thought that would be cool...

1. A super-detailed USS Missouri, ca. 1944. (Tamiya, 1/350). Starting to accumulate photos now.

2. The Famo and Sd.Ah.116 trailer with all 4 Aber sets, and a super-detailed engine. HELP!! Does anyone have suggestions on GOOD reference sources for this thing?

Some here might know of my interest in the Space Shuttle, the HMS Olympic, and lately, of my latest purchase of a 1/32 Hawker Hunter, a 1/72 Voodoo, and a 1/72 Panther I want to build knocked-out. Also 'made public' not too long ago was my idea of building a fleet of 30+ A-4 Skyhawks in all their guises.

Those are my next big projects, I think. Other than for the Hunter, I have obtained the info I lacked from or through those forums.

The HMS Olympic, for instance, has been a long-time 'dream' of mine, ever since I converted Revell's old Titanic into the HMS Britannic, and displayed it as it (still) rests at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. The Olympic was the only one of the 3 Titanic class ships to make it as a successful liner, but got a bit of fame as a troop carrier during WWI, when it rammed and sunk a German U-Boat. It sported a rather complicated dazzle camouflage scheme and I had been looking for years for details of the scheme. Someone here gave me the answer.

So, now after many years, this Olympic dream is about to come true.

This made me think about all those ideas that we all harbour. Had I not posted a message on FSM, I would still be looking...

Same thing about this A-4 business. I've been able to collect a decent amount of info on little known variants and operators through FSM. More will come. But it makes this other 'dream' so much more achievable. It's not years away, barely months or weeks.

So, what about you? What are your big modeling ideas, your dreams??? Are you stuck for reference, kits, .. Maybe there's someone out here who can help!
