keep them or give them away
Posted by lolok on Sunday, September 7, 2003 11:07 AM
I just wanted to ask everyone what they do with their models when finished. How many of us keep them on display and how many give them away and move on to the next project. Is it the kit or the actual task of construction, etc which is what keeps us hooked. There is the question of space of course if you like me build sailing ships and modern naval vessels.I tend to give them away to people who I know will appreciate them and are too ham fisted to do it themselves.

A little of both actually.
Most I have the room to keep around though I have "loaned" some to Veterans Groups in the past.
A few I have given away as gifts.

I keep them but never two of the same type. I usually give the previous one away.

Mostly put them on display, but on occasion I will give one I built to someone.

I usually keep mine and display them (bad ones toward the back) but I've given quite a few away to family and friends, especially children. They get a kick out of them. I mainly build for the fun of it, but a few are for pure interest of the subject.

I have kept all my 120mm fiqures as they do not take up a lot of room, one advantage of this is I can see how far I have come since starting to build fiqures.

Sad [:(]As for my armor collection this has not been a problem due to them all going missing during one of my many movesSad [:(] (Angry [:(!]boy was that a sad time). I have given some completed models away to make room for new ones.

Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

Just a follow-up....

I received a package yesterday from my wife's uncle who I built the GMC 6X6 for .... in it was an older book on the Mustang (but one I didn't have)...and a note:

" Hello Mike-

Enclosed is a airplane book you might like and add to your library. My friends all admire the GMC 6X6 model you made me and I think that's great."

As far as I am concerned, he could've just sent the note and it would've made me as happy as I was to see the book. Just doing something like that for someone who was in the war and experiencing in real time what we recreate using plastic, paint, and clay-- well...it just feels right.

I do a little of both. I build them to make me happy, but if it makes someone else happier, it's theirs. I can always build another! I also have some on loan to local libraries, a couple of museums, and two schools.
