Collecting kits...NOT...do I have too many...

Those deals are always impossible to pass up. I found a pile of pro stock drag cars at a toy store in an outlet mall a few years back. They were Monogram Pontiac kits going for $2 each. I still have a spares box full of big blocks, Lenco transmissions, big slicks and four link rear ends.

You are definitely NOT insane.
A kit is a kit. If I see a kit at a garage sale I don't even think about it, I just grab it. Even if the parts aren't all there you can always use it for something - painting practice, spare parts, etc. And always ask if they have any more.

Here in the UK - 'car boot sales' (car trunk sales?) are fairly good for the odd kit and generally are in a complete state (or are a complete state) depending on your luck, i've also found reference aircraft books and old modelling mags and catalogues, finding these in a sea of **** makes it worth the trip.

If the kit is complete and unstarted I'll pay $1.00 for almost any kit. If it's by Starfix I'll pass. I have too many kits that have slight problems and they are hard to sell or trade. As an example I have an old Fujimi 1/48 Fw190A-6 that is missing its decal sheet. I have had it on every for sale list I've put out for the last 15 years, no takers. There is no such thing as too many kits but kits with problems are a red flag for me.

My wife may agree that you may be insane but I would have to agree with the fact that if there are useful items within the kit it would be a sin to leave it there and not buy it. I have many kits in that state and not sure if I will ever get to use any of them but they are there in case I need something later down the road. Keep collecting!

In 1988, when stationed in California i bought a Hasagawa 1/48 F-4J Collectors kit with resin parts, photo etched and white metal parts for $0.50 at a yard sale. I almost twisted my arm out of joint reaching for my wallet so fast before they changed their mind. The kit was still sealed in the plastic wrap.

No, you're not insane. . . you can never have too many spare parts.

If they were car kits, I'd probably buy them for parts. I'm trying to build up a bit of a parts-bin for auto models so I can swap engines/pieces/tires/wheels etc and build a more 'custom' configuration.
