Hobby Boss

I'm looking to buy a helicopter that is made by Hobby Boss. I have never built anything from them. Are their products of good quality and do they have good detail? Thanks for your comments.

This needs to be posted in the Helicopters forum.

the Hobby Boss 1/72 UH-1 and AH-1 kits are very easy builds OOB.  However, the detail and accuracy of them are not quite as good as the old Italeri kits.  They do look like Hueys and Cobras though and the fit is awesome.  However,  Hobby Boss kits are not all perfect duplicates of the originals.  As with every other manufacturer, some of their kits are better than others.  Personally, I have found their US helos to be only average in accuracy but I have heard that their other kits are in some cases very good.  One thing for sure, I would not use their decals as I have found their UH-1 and AH-1 decals to be very rudimentary.  Just me two cents.

Check out the new issue of FSM if you can get your mits on it.

I'm pretty sure the HH-60 built by Don Stauffer and featured on the top right of the cover is a 1/72 Hobby Boss.

From memory, i think he said it was a decent kit, though he did a great job of scratch building and kit surgery to make it even better.

Perhaps even just send Don a pm and see what he thought, he's on here fairly often and i'm sure would be happy to help out.

Whilst i haven't built a Hobby Boss helo, i have built a few of their 1/72 aircraft kits and was quite impressed with the quality of their detail ease of build, so much so, i also have their 1/48 F-111 in the stash which look awesome in the box, but i have no idea how well it will go together.

I just picked up a Hobby Boss Helix in 1:72. Now, not built yet, of course, but from initial inspection, she looks VERY well done. Reminds me of Academy quality, so, very good for the price. Now, hopefully she goes together well. I know the landing gear will be fragile and a bit fiddly but we`ll see and post results some day.

I've built a UH-1 from Hobby Boss, and it was a good kit. Everything fit well, and there were no surprises. The local shop only carries them once in a blue moon though, so I've only ever bought and built the one. I would buy another Hobby Boss kit, helicopter or otherwise, if given the chance though.

I built the 1/72 MiL 24/35 and except for some slight fit issues on the rear wheelwells it was a very nice model. I can not speak as to the acuracy of it, but it sure looks like a Hind to me.

The detail is also really nice.

i build hobbyboss armor since thay have a lot of PLA stuff and it's fine. i have their 1/72 locomotives and the instructions are almost identical (except for more parts in the 1/35) to the trumpeter 1/35 ones.doesn't concern you but i do find theire wheel attachments for modern warwheels to be less sturdy than i like.
