Air America - blue FS code
Posted by Raven Morpheus on Sunday, April 19, 2015 9:18 AM

Hey all

Just a quick question.

I'm wondering what FS code the blue on Air America UH-1s was?

TIA

I don't have an exact color or color code, but I plan on going with insignia blue.  I think any dark/navy blue will do as it looks like there was a bit of variation.

Thanks Gino.  I saw those pics whilst searching Google.  I am considering doing a 1/48th Air America short body Huey using the Revell Hog kit, but I'm in two minds about it as the kit is so poor (I might use the Hobby Boss one but it's not as cheap to buy).  Hmm.

From the looks of it, from the paint conversion chart I have (www.paint4models.com/.../paintconversionchart20100101e.htm) Insignia Blue is FS35044 and Testors do it as Model Master Acryl #4742.

Next silly question - were they gloss or matt overall, I'm guessing the blue would have been one or the other but what about the rest, presumably bare metal?

I see some sheen off the paint in those photos, so I would suggest a gloss or semi gloss finish. the rest of the airframe Aluminum lacquer perhaps?

Ditto on the silver paint.
