Very saddened to hear about Gene's passing.

My condolences to his family and loved ones.

I feel sad too, selfishly, because it's guys like

Gene that make this forum such a great place.

We have lost another Vietnam "brother".  I did not know Gene, but knew his brother Steve.   I can say I knew the character of the man, having served with many like him as an Army Helicopter Crew Member.  Ironic he passed away on the Anniversary of the death of my name sake Melvin A. Mollberg, Mother's Day,  May 13, 1945.

Gene will be missed by many.  May God Bless him and his family!

Rest in peace my friend Gene.  It was great getting to know him not long time ago... I am posting his last comment in my Huey thread below.   He was always there to help like you guys...

==============================

Andy;

Believe me, it was an honor to be a small part of what you have done for your friend. It's guys like you that make this hobby what it is.  I only wish I had your skills for building, but any time I can be of some small help, just ask. Thanks for sharing!

Gene

Sad  Sad news today.  Gene Kennedy died today as a result of his incident on May 1.   As soon as I hear from his wife Fran, I'll let you know the funeral arrangements so that those who live near the Houston area can attend if you desire.  I plan on sending a floral arrangement from the unit.  Those who want to contribute to it can send me a check.  I'll send any money over the cost of the flowers to the family.  Gunrunner 31 has closed his flight plan.  Sad

Thanks guys!

I just E-mailed his brother Steve for an update tonight.  I'll pass on to him your best wishes and prayers for Gene.  Steve was unaware I knew his brother form the FSM Forum.

Oh man!  I am so saddened about this news and I really hopes he pulls thru.  He was one of guys who helped me ALOT during my Huey build few months ago.  I wouldn't have done without his help.  He will be in my prayers...

Thanks for letting us know.

Sad News! Gene Kennedy (GeneK)

Guys,

I just received an E-mail from Gene's brother Steve.  We served in the 174th AHC in Vietnam and met at our Annual Reunions.   Below is the information on Gene.   Keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.

On May 1st, Gene went into cardiac arrest while driving near his home in Houston. He was taken to the hospital unconscious. They do not know how long his heart was stopped before CPR was initiated. He did not have any significant injuries from wreaking the car, but it is totaled. Since then, he has remained in an induced coma and on a ventilator. Gene also has COPD and kidney problems. Part of his care has involved dialysis. At this point, the outlook is not positive. Today they took him off the sedative and he was not responsive although his step-daughter tells me he did open one eye.

Gene was a Houston police officer for over 35 years working in Criminal Intelligence. He worked closely with the Secret Service on Presidential and other VIP visits. In Vietnam, he flew C models and Cobras with the 238th Aerial Weapons Company in Lon Son 719. Gene is married, with two step-daughters and a grandson.
