1/48 Mil Mi-24 series helo

Is there another 1/48 Mi-24 other than Revell's kit?

I should think that this important of an aircraft would have an updated kit in 1/48....Is anyone contemplating releasing one?

thanks

Hmmm. Hmm

I see there is a great kit in 1/72 the new Zvezda.

1/48 is my preferred scale, but.....

I have the Revell kit.  Looking into updating it with aftermarket.  For the life of me, I can not find any Soviet markings for it, ecspecially the markings from when it was first released.

Current build: 1/48 Monogram A-1H & AMT Jedi Starfighter.

Completed:  1/48 Monogram/Revell P-61B, 1/32 Hasegawa F6F-5, 1/48 Hasegawa F-16C, 1/48 Revell Mig-21PFM, 1/48 Revell/Monogram AH-64A, Revell/Monogram 1/48 F-14D, AMT 1/420 USS Defiant, AMT 1/650(?) USS Enterprise, 1/72 Bandai VF-1J, AMT 1/537 USS Reliant, Academy 1/35 M1-A1 Abrams, Academy 1/48 F-86F30, Linbergh's USS Gato

the only decent kit is the 1/35 Trumpeter kit.... all the rest fall short,.,,,, the 1/48 monogram is garbage... and needs about 100 bucks in resin and PE as well as alot of extra work to make it acceptable...

On the Bench : Ukrainian Flanker, Ju-87B Luftawaffe, Mi-24 (Trumpy scale)

I wouldn't say the Revell/Monogram 1/48th Hind is garbage.  It can be built straight out of the box and look like a decent Hind D.  It doesn't "need" all the extras.  Just like any other model, it can have all sorts of PE and AM resin items thrown at it to make it more accurate, but doesn't necessarily need it.

By the way, the Trumpeter 1/35 Hind D isn't perfect either.  You can throw the same amount of PE and AM resin at it to make it better too.  On the other hand, it can be built straight out of the box and look just as good too.

It all depends on how much detail you want to add.  Each modeler has his own level he strives for.

As to the Russian decals for the 1/48 Hind, check out Linden-Hill decals.

I decided to get the new Zvezda 1/72 kit. Will be my first Helo in almost 40 years since I built the old monogram Huey gunship! Big Smile

I thought that some Chinese company did a few 1/48 Hind kits a few years back. I have not seen them for a good four or five years, but it was some of the later variants including teh one with the twin guns mounted on the side of the fuselage

The Revel monogram kit is a horrible fitting kit... tons of flash....  just a sloppy job on the part of revell.... I never expect kits to be 100 % accurate.... and I realize you get what you pay for...   So I try to stay away from the old revel and monogram kits... I have this kit at home.... and will finish it... but I have had to get lots of resin etc just to make it acceptable IMO... It is kind of my rainy day kit... i pull it out every once and a while and rescribe panel lines etc.. they are all raised.. and there are no rivets...  I have been usuing a hand held rivet tool, one at a time.....

Now the trumpy kit  doesnt have raised rivets either....  but it shows rivet markings... so I can live with that....  and the trumpy kit seems to be engineered well...  It needs some cockpit work.... but PART has an excellent kit for the cockpit... the part kit is very complicated though.... and will need some steady hands to do some of the almost microscopic PE work   LOL   but they have almost every dial in the cockpit represented in PE.... I will most likely  use pieces of the PARt kit in conjunction with either the Verlinden resin... or the Eduard kit....  and maybe make 2 separate builds out of them....  we'll see....

I got the stencilling from linden hill and Bush war kits for the 48 and 35 scale kits....  I made the mistake of using Trumpeter decals once... Never again.... LOL
