Help!! Super Frelon glosssing problem
Posted by HeavyArty on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 6:39 PM
Help, I just sprayed my Super Frelon with gloss acrylic craft paint to give it a cleaner look after some minor repairs. The glass on it fogged all the way around. I have never had this happen before. I tried to regloss some with brushed on Testors glosscoat and no joy. Any suggestions or does anyone have the glass for a Heller 1/35 Super Frelon?

Gino,

I'm sorry to hear of your gloss-coat experience! That's too bad, but exactly what happened to me the last time I was doing a model car on contract. I made new glass, using the wet-sanded down originals as molds. Wheew... saved that one, and learned to never do that again. That's when I learned the virtues of glossing with Future Floor Wax, thanks to Swanney. Wink [;)]

Heller has been known, in the past, to replace parts that you write and complain about... sometimes, they replace the entire kit, but either way, if I were you, I'd write or e-mail Heller, and hear from them, before proceeding.

If none of that works, have you ever done "work bench vacuforming", using the kit pieces for the molds? Generally, I prefer this method because it makes the glass look more to scale than the thicker kit pieces; I'll be happy to make you some illustrations on the process if you want.

Take care, and good luck!

Here is how I found out about Hellers re-release of the Super Frelon.......A few months ago I asked Heller about glass replacement ( just for a long shot idea ) and WOW! they sent me both TREES! for free! I never even heard back from them and in less than two weeks it was at my house!

Did you try FUTURE floor wax over it?......parts of my U-boat reacted the same way when I was cleaning some areas up using rubbing alcohol .....it hazed so I went over it with Future and it cleared it all up.

Good luck!

All,
I went to the Heller web site on the 15th and told them what had happened and asked for replacement parts and heard nothing back. Lo and behold, today I went to the mailbox and find a priority air mail box from Heller containing the complete set of clear parts for my Super Frelon. Great Service, Thank you Heller.

Howdy Gino,

Just stopped by and read thru the thread. I was just mentally planning how I could quick vac-form over my kit supplied pieces when, I read thru to the end of the thread.......good news to be sure. Smile [:)]

As to your experience (and Papa's), about getting the trees replaced, that is even neater news......just wish Tamiya would be so responsive. And, to get even greedier, Trumpeter.
My list of individual parts trees that I would love to get free in the mail is ENORMOUS!.......Tongue [:P]

Glad you got your 'problem' worked out Gino.
