CH-46E decals
Posted by navyao on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 8:15 PM
Hi everyone. Well, I finally got the Academy "Phrog" for Christmas. I posted this question in the fixed wing area (accidentally). No the next goal is to get some help from you all.

I posted here a while back about my buddy who was killed when the 46 he was flying in went down off Pt. Loma, San Diego. He acted heroically saving several fellow Marines before buying it. Well this kit would be a big part of a memorial I've been trying to put together which would be displayed at the Milwaukee War Memorial.

At the time he was assigned to HMM-166 "SeaElk" based out of MCAS Miramar. I'm hoping you guys may have an idea of someone who might make decals that would be willing to help me out. Any ideas you all can come up with would be really appreciated.

Thanks again,
AO, Baby!

I believe TwoBobs is working on a decal sheet for the Phrog kit. I sent him some pics from here in western Iraq of some Phrogs, some with colorful (by Marine standards) markings. Not sure what the sheet will look like or when it will be out though.

Brian,

Good to go! Which SQDNs did you send to TwoBobs?

Carl,

HMM-265 and -166 mostly; the most colorful ones (again, colorful by Marine standards). Haven't heard anything from TwoBobs in a while, so I don't know if he's interested in them or not. We'll keep our fingers crossed.

Brian,

Awesome! I'll have to take some time out and head down to Miramar and get some photos off the flightline and then send them over to TwoBobs.

Navy AO,

Once Brian gets some word back from TwoBobs, maybe we'll see some decals for HMM-166 in the near future.Big Smile [:D]

Carl,

-166 is in Iraq right now, and not sure when they'll be leaving. Hopefully we'll see a sheet with them on it soon.... they have a neat moose caricature painted on them.. just like Bullwinkle, only with a .50 cal and a cigar. I'll look and see if I have a close-up of one and post the pic. If not, I'll take a pic of the desert patch and post that.

Brian,

I know what you're referring to with -166's Moose...cigar in mouth, toting and XM-218 with ammo belt over the arm...nice work. The full color birds are usually "00" or the CO's mount.

I supported every USMC and USN squadron (F/W and R/W) in WESTPAC at my last duty station but I floated with HMM-163 (REIN) so that's why I'm especially partial to the "Evil Eyes".

I know the Acedemy kit has decals for HMM-162 "Golden Eagles" and HMM-261 "Raging Bulls." You could get cut out the six from 261 and cut out the 2 from 162. Then you get HMM-166, but I don't know about 166's Modex or emblem. If only it was HMM-166 "Raging Eagles" or "Golden Bulls," you'd be set.

Slightly off topic.
I want to a Canadian Rescue KV107. - the yellow ones I saw in Gander in '89.
Can the Phrog be converted , and does anyone do the decals?

All this talk about HMM-166 reminded me, I've got one of their OIF II patches, given to me by one of their mechs. Can someone tell me how I could post it in the forum?

Thanks.
