I knew I wasn't seeing things...thanks for all the responses! Iust a matter of making time to build a Seawolf Huey. I have the fortune to work with a couple of former Seawolves and the stories they tell show that they have some brass ones.

Hey all,

The Seawolves of HAL-3 started their renowned service in Southeast Asia with UH-1Bs. By 1969 they received their first UH-1Cs and I believe (I'm doing this from memory now) that by 1971 they had received a number of UH-1M upgrades as well. The B models were certainly in service with them the longest, but the later, more powerful birds were there too. Just depends on the time period you're looking to model.

I for one would love to do a 1972 SEAL Support mission dio, but I'd have to clone myself to get the time to do it. Writing on this forum is the extent of my modelling time now!

Oh well...

Gino,

Thanks for the link to the Seawolf's web page. I was mistaken, the "E" model was with the Marines. It's good when a site has the aicrcarft listed by tail number, model and additional info.

Not true on the miniguns on Seawolf Hueys. Here is the picture to prove they did. Notice the "NAVY" on the tail boom.

I have built a Seawolf bird using the Academy C kit. Came out looking pretty good. Here is the site I used for my references, www.seawolf.org Has lots of great photos and other info. Even lists helicopters by tail number and type (they used a few C models too) and gives a blurb on the action of each. Great stuff. hope this helps.

They started off with the "B's", just like the Army then acquired the "E" models and "upgraded".

I believe the kit that MRC/Academy intended to be the UH-1C Navy Seawolf ended up being the UH-1C "Frog" Gunship. Furthermore, I think that the Navy Seawolves used UH-1Bs leftover from the Army. FYI, the Seawolves didn't use the miniguns included in the MRC/Academy kit, they used twin M-60 mounts were the miniguns were mounted on the Army UH-1Cs.

I also heard the "rumor" but never saw any Kit's advertised any where. I don't see why you couldn't use any of the other UH-1C's to make your own. Just would have to do your own decals/markings and improvise a little with the armament.

I saw about a year or so ago that Academy/MRC was going to put out a UH-1C in Navy Seawolf configuration/markings (HAL-3). I haven't heard or seen anything since. Does anyone know what happened and if they'll make the run? I'd love to build the kit...I work with a couple of former Seawolves.
