I have an idea to build a dio of the PBR (Patol Boat Reconaissance, Patrol Boat Rubber, Plastic Boat River, Brown Water Navy, whatever you want to call it).
Would use this kit, paint and weather the 105 on the bow, EREBUS on the stern and Canned Heat on the rear 40 mm grenade launcher (?).
Probably just a river scene, maybe try the scene where they intercept the San Pan, but that might be tough to make look convincingly made out of reeds and wood.
PBR actually stands for Patrol Boat River. I did "PBR Streetgang" from Apocalypse Now a while ago, with Chef, Lance, and CPT Willard on board about the time they reach COL Kurtz’s compound.

That looks closer to the point where the boat arrives at Col Kurz’s compound... no more Chief or Clean...
and BTW, very nicely done sir!
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!
N is for NO SURVIVORS...

I meant COL Kurtz, not LTC Kilgore. Fixed. It has been a while since I have watched it; looks like I need to again.

I have the director's cut of that movie. In case the original wasn't long enough, there's an extra hour or so.
Watched it literally a hundred times. When I was in college it was one of 3 movies we had (The Wall and Grateful Dead Movie), didn't have cable and the old console TV with rabbit ears got zero reception. Coming home at night we'd throw one in while we crached out.
And your model came out really nice!
Where did you get the figures??
Yup, I have seen the director's cut as well. The French Plantation scene makes much more sense in it. Great movie.
The figures on mine are kit-bashed from different figure pieces that I cobbed together to get what I wanted.
Willard’s on the hot seat.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

After his encounter with the tiger, the sous chef really did not want to leave the boat to go foraging for tropical fruit in the jungle.
"Never get off the boat!"
"Bye tiger! Bye tiger! I'm bugging out! Come all the way to Vietnam to get eaten by a *** tiger! You can all kiss my a$$ cause I *** quit!"
Little known is the fact that the boat crew was consuming large amounts of illegal drugs during the filming. In the chef freakout scene Lance has a perma grin from obvious LSD.
You can see actor's pupils being effected too.
And Mickey Hart (one of the drummers from the Grateful Dead) did the pecussion and ambient sounds on the soundtrack.

Not so little known, but very true. Dennis Hopper wanted to be paid in drugs for his role. He was high the whole time as well.
Yes, the movie was something of a train wreck during production. A typhoon destroyed sets during filming, Harvey Keitel was replaced by Martin Sheen early in filming. Then Sheen later had a heart attack during filming. The Hueys were short term use due to having to go fight insurgents. The movie went way over budget and longer than scheduled.... the list of all the woes is long. But Mr Coppola was able to still piece together his classic from the chaos.
Book was better than the movie.
I've seen it a couple of times, including trying unsuccessfully to get through the version with the Playboy Bunnies. I know a lot of people like it so I'll leave it there.
Yes kind of unlikely that they would stay in country after the performance to hook up with some GIs.
GMorrisonBook was better than the movie.
Of course the book, Heart of Darkness, was much better. The movie was only loosely based on the book though, not a direct telling of it. I think it used the ideas from the book well.

You would be surprised what goes on w/touring USO hotties and soldiers. I know a guy who hooked up w/an LA Lakers cheerleader on a USO tour in Korea and later ended up marrying her.
I've been toying around with the idea of a APN scene for my next PBR build too. What ever you decide we want to see it! Heres my last PBR at the 2014 Roscoe Turner all my build shots are on PhotoBucket and I can't seem to download them onto my computer with out them trying to get money out of me.

Hi ;
I have found this hull makes a good base for Scratch built vessels of an environmental restoration type ( GasP ! ) I wound up with five of them and had to do something else with the left over four . So Environmental Clean-Up Vessels they became .
OK, I'll bite. What are "vessels of an environmental restoration type"? Any pics of what you built?
HI;
Can you say Oil Spill Command boats ? The ones used by the companies I worked with in San Fransisco were very much modifications of these designs , including The Hamilton waterjets .
Pictures , I have them , But you like everyone else will have to wait till December when Marcus Mcbean and I get together . He's going to sit down with me and show me how .
Marine Pollution Control was contracted to Clean bay .We had modified LCM-6 vessels equipped for oil sweeping and decanting. Worked hand in hand with the boats in question during the ' Cape Mohican Oil Spill " in the bay in the late 90s .
Clean Bay 1 and 2 were modified offshore Anchor handling vessels . These used to carry the anchors out to a given point and then drop them securing oil rigs in place .
I thought Willard might have had enough of war to stop in and hang out at the french plantation permanently and help them out. After all, there were some "fringe benefits" he had already experienced. Let Lance take the PBR back.
The playboy bunnies scene was weird. Would the monsoon conditions be enough to ground the playboy chopper indefinately ?
