Witcher meditation…
Posted by Sie on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 9:25 AM

As I said in my intro post, I have been a long time lurker on here and youtube.

Please find below my very first attempt at building a diorama…

I would appreciate any and all critique, good and bad.

Thank you.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Yeah the trees, groundwork, rocks, etc look amazing!!!

The tiny figure does give a sense of peace and harmony...

You might try a little shading on him to bring out the detail. There are LOTS of videos on painting figures on YouTube.

Fantastic landscaping. What did you use for the water; resin or liquitex medium?

Sie,

Great work.  I assume those are super trees. I've used them quite a bit on my model railroad layout. A trick I learned on the model railroader forum is to use a soldering iron to straighten bent "trees" before adding the leaves.  Using a hot iron, lightly and quickly touch the tip of the iron to the side of the trunk where you want the tree to bend in the opposite direction.  Yours look pretty straight but something to keep in mind for later dioramas.

Another idea I read about was to paint the trees gray before adding leaves.  I never done so but will the next time I build super trees.

Your diorama is awesome.  I've experimented with fake water and just got frustrated.  You nailed it.  Share more of your work. Yes

Thank you for all your kind words!

I tried to put a bit of thought into the layout but it sort of built itself… everything just seemed to fall into place.

Water is two part epoxy… First time using it, learnt a lot (resin will always find a way to escape, make sure you've sealed properly!!)

Trees are "Forest in a box", came squished tight in a shoe box, bright yellow and bent out of shape.
Did my best to straighten them by soaking in hot water and laying straight. They've been airbrushed with various colours to try to make them blend.

Here's a few more pics, witcher figure painted and a couple of tiny mushrooms 3D printed on my Photon.

I've learnt so much building this… cannot wait to start a new one!
