Drywall/Hardstand
Posted by greentracker98 on Sunday, December 14, 2014 3:20 PM

If you have looked at my June 5, 1944 post you can see my hardstand for my P-47/P 38  is made from drywall. My question is, Is there an easy way to get the paper off of the drywall? I still have the taxiway and the driveway (is this the right word?) to do.

Thanks

If you have a steamer that will get it off. If not you can lay a wet towel on it for a little while and the water will soak into the paper and make it easier to peal off. Do a couple tests first so you know how wet you can make the towel without soaking the inside of the drywall too much.

For future use, they make paperless drywall--but, not only is it more expensive, it does not have that surface texture papered drywall has.

Dave - I didn't think about the steaming part.

Cap - I don't worry about the texture. This is part of the same piece of drywall. But it was real pain you know where, also real messy. I did quite a bit of sanding on it

Thanks guys

Gotcha.

Then follow Dave's idea.  From my experience with wallpaper and the like, get a secondhand steam iron.  An old tea towel wetted, then wrung out to near dry will help, too.  Work the edges until you get the paper lifting up, then use a scraper to peel the res away.
